Me too! What he did after he quit playing shouldn't have affected What he did on the field. He should have been a first ballot hall of famer.

My understanding was that Rose was banned for betting on the games while he was a player. Not just any games, but Reds games. And not just for the Reds to win, but sometimes against the Reds.

I think you can see how this is a conflict of interests. Would he perhaps throw a game to win a bet?

All that aside, I think he deserves to be in the HOF on his merits as a player.

Pete's biggest blunder was not coming clean from the start. He made a lot of enemies by denying his gambeling on baseball for over a decade after it was exposed. I really think had he admitted his gambling from the beginning that he would have been allowed to be voted in while he was still alive.

Now, being voted in might have been another matter.

I don't think he ever bet on the Reds to lose, if, in fact, he b et on them at all.

I, as a 6 year old child, ran in to him at the Latonia race track, his second season in the majors. He also had the IRS problems due to betting the horses before the baseball story came out. Face it, the guy liked the jazz.
