I believe coach Stoops will be back next year. My question is,doesn't his contract automatically extend if he makes a bowl game?

I could be wrong but I think he has a multi year contract that is not based on team performance. He just has to show up, keep his nose clean and rake in millions. I think he may have incentives to make more based on team performance in addition to his “way too high base salary.” [ 11-16-2025, 05:05 PM: Message edited by: handycat ]

I was thinking that his contact automatically renewed by one year if he makes a bowl game.

Looks like there used to be auto-extend provisions, but no more:
quote: Mark Stoops's contract, extended through June 2031, includes an annual salary of approximately $9 million plus performance-based bonuses. Key terms also feature a large buyout clause, which was around $37.7 million if he were fired on December 1, 2025, consisting of 75% of his remaining salary, with some of it payable within 60 days and the rest over the next three years. The new deal also removed the automatic extension clauses from his previous contracts.
