We had to hold on for the win BUT WE WON! I don't think I've ever felt this good about a UK football team. Great season.

This was truly a season to remember. Coach Stoops has built a foundation for this breakout season. He has assembled a staff capable of recruiting some 4-stars, and training up 2- and 3-star players to SEC stars. Yeah, we all have our gripes about play calling, game management, etc, but all in all, this is a very solid staff. The proof is in the pudding! The last time we had such a successful team, we had a crook as a coach (Curci). For all of Stoops shortcomings, he has achieved success that has eluded all his predecessors since the 70s, and he has done it without any hint of misdeeds.
Can this success be sustained? Will the departure of Snell, Allen, and the rest of the seniors decimate the team? That will be the test. My gut says he has developed over the past 5 years the kind of recruits that can start to rise up and become bone-fide SEC players as Juniors and Seniors.
But for now, I broke out my best bourbon to toast this once-in-a-lifetime season, and to hope that it starts to become the norm from now on.

My grandson and I were able to attend the game. We sat in the Penn State section (wife got tix for us for Christmas so I couldn’t complain) and thoroughly enjoyed the game (but got extremely nervous in the 4th quarter). So,proud of this team. I think UK will be solid every year because of the recruiting over the last several years. Go Big Blue!!!

Glad you had a good time, EC!

Tiptree, Enterprisecat, I'm glad to see others that are celebrating this year, this team and the football program in general. I have not been a Stoops fan but looking at his overall success since his hire, I'm willing to say I was wrong. Hard for me to understand how we can expect more. We are not Alabama or Clemson and if you're expecting results like that I expect you will go thru very unhappy, at least as for as UK football goes.
Maybe I'm just easy to please. I've lived about 45 minutes from the University of Illinois for the last 38 years and have a granddaughter that is a student there. I admit they are my second college sports team. That will put things in perspective for you.

It didn't take long for my pessimism gene to come out in the 4th quarter, about 30 seconds. I couldn't believe how we took over the game with 2 TDs in the 3rd quarter then let them score 2 TDs in 6:00 minutes of the 4th quarter. Of course when I thought about it I realized we were still in the same mind set of the regular season, go after it for 3 quarters then play not to lose in the 4th quarter. I have to admit that we did tighten up at the end and do what had to be done to hold onto the victory. I'm not so sure we have the team to finish as well next season but at this point it's hard to know who will be brought in and who on the current roster can develop into the guys to replace the seniors. Only about 7 months to wait.

We won and that's what counts the most.

Snell played another great game running for 144 yards and 5.5 yards average per carry.

Snell is going to be hard to replace.
Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 01-02-2019, 06:19 PM:
We'll probably have to replace him by committee. Rose and the Smoke show might surprise you!

EC, glad to hear you and your grandson got to see the game together. I bet you both had the time of your lives.

Agree Tiptree, But all I want now is one thing and that would be a good 4 star QB. With our improved team and a beautiful university, you wouldn't think that would be hard to do. Heck, other average teams in the SEC have better productive QBs than us.

Yes, without Snell next year, I hope we can get a better passer in there to compensate for what is likely a diminished run game.
Wilson just can't reliably throw the deep ball, so he really is just a second option for RB. That has to change.

Yep, a great season for the Gridiron Cats. One to be very proud of all around.
As much as I am perplexed by Stoops decisions, I have always said there is no denying the results he has gotten.
