It didn’t take long for Lamar Thomas to turn heads in the wide receiver meeting room.

“When he first came in, he came in loud, in your face. It kind of took us off guard,” junior wide receiver Blake Bone said today.

The receivers were hungry for something different, but they didn’t expect to be smacked in the face so quickly. LT wasn’t messing around, telling them straight up:

“If you guys wanna do this, the talent’s given. You guys are here for a reason. We got everybody in the book we need. If you guys wanna do this, we gotta point our heads all in one direction and pull for each other.”

For Bone, that was all he needed to hear. “We knew he was legit just by the way he talked.”

Aside from quarterback play, nobody was criticized last year more than the receivers. Some called them divas, others called them soft. If you said “they can’t catch” you would have been correct, with dropped passes occurring early and often.

Bone doesn’t dodge the criticisms. He knows the self-proclaimed ‘Juice Boys’ weren’t on the same page, but with LT in charge, that won’t be a problem.

“We’re a crazy group of guys. We needed somebody to take charge, take us by the reins and say, ‘Look, you have to do something this way to be successful’ and I think that’s what we’re doing right now.”
