Mark Stoops has added two more coaches to his staff in non-coaching roles, according to The Courier-Journal.
Brian Landis, former safeties coach at EKU and Georgetown College, will join the staff as the defensive quality control coach. Louie Matsakis, former special teams coordinator at Kansas, will be the special teams quality control position. The third quality control coach hired for 2016 is former Iowa State wide receivers Tommy Mangino, who will control the offense to the highest of qualities.
Quality control positions are new to the staff for the 2016 season. They are not technically assistant coaches. They do not count as one of the nine full-time assistants and they cannot have responsibilities on the field. They are essentially glorified graduate assistants. A full job description:
This position will serve as a close assistant to a coordinator of the University of Kentucky football program. The Quality Control Assistant must have the ability to multitask, and produce quality reports with developed statistical analysis for a coordinator.
The assistant will work ahead of coaches, and break down game film, charting opponent tendencies. This position will interpret and adhere to university as well as NCAA, and SEC policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
If you’re counting offseason coaching additions to Mark Stoops’ staff, the number is now up to seven — three new quality control coaches, two new offensive coordinators, a new wide receivers coach and a defensive backs coach to replace Derrick Ansley.
