With the loss, Kentucky is 4-2 and 2-2 in the Southeastern Conference. With the win, Auburn is 4-2 and 1-2 in the SEC.
Auburn leads the all-time series, 26-6-1, including a 13-4 record in games played in Lexington.
Auburn has won nine consecutive meetings vs. UK in Lexington and has won 17 of the last 18 meetings in the series.
The game marked the first Thursday game in The New CWS history and the first Thursday home game since 1939.
Kentucky will return to action on Oct. 24 at Mississippi State at 7 p.m. ET with the game televised live on the SEC Network, and will be broadcast on the UK Sports Radio Network, with Tom Leach, Jeff Piecoro and Dick Gabriel voicing the action.

UK has played six consecutive games to open the season that have been decided by eight points or less.
The last time UK had six consecutive games, decided by eight points or less, came in 1975.
Dating back to its debut season in 1881, UK has never opened a season with six straight games decided by eight points or less.
The Wildcats converted on 28 consecutive red-zone opportunities, dating back to Oct. 25, 2014 vs. Mississippi State, before throwing a red-zone interception in the second quarter.
The Wildcats held Auburn to 110 yards of total offense in the second half.
With a season-high 497 yards of total offense, it marks the best offensive output for UK since 2014 vs. Mississippi State (504).
UK has scored on its first drive of the game in two games in 2015 and for the first time since the season opener.
UK is 1-2 when its opponent scores first.
UK is 3-2 at Commonwealth Stadium and 10-9 in the coach Mark Stoops era.
A crowd of 63,407 is the largest in the youthful history of The New CWS.
