John Hardin defensive tackle Matt Elam announced Sunday night that he will reveal his college decision at noon Thursday.
Elam — a 6-foot-6, 370-pound prospect — has narrowed his choices to Kentucky and Alabama. John Hardin Coach Chad Lewis told the Herald-Leader that the college announcement will be made at the high school.
The 247Sports recruiting service ranks Elam as the No. 21 overall prospect in the senior class and the No. 3 player nationally at his position. He’s considered a five-star player by that website.
Coach Mark Stoops has made Elam a top priority as he looks to close out his first full recruiting class at UK. The in-state standout has taken several unofficial visits to Lexington, including one over the weekend. He took his official visit last month along with the majority of UK’s commitments in the Class of 2014.
Alabama Coach Nick Saban has been to Elizabethtown multiple times over the course of the recruitment, and he hosted Elam on an official visit in Tuscaloosa earlier this month.
UK’s class — ranked No. 13 in the country by Rivals.com — currently includes 26 players, and Stoops has made it clear that he will sign a total of 28. One of the two remaining spots is being held for Elam.
