Even a great defensive coach can't do much with this lack of talent. It was obvious that WKU (Sun Belt) was better than UK, especially on defense. We will be fortunate to win 2 games this year.

I think the game did prove that as far as coaching goes there wasn't a lot of difference between the Phillips and Stoops regime. In fact our game against WKU was a lot more competitive last year. The difference will have to come from the recruiting which we see will start to show up later in the season or for sure next season.....

Agree. We will see a rerun of last year for the most part. We don't have that many new players and the ones we do have don't have the experience yet, or they are not much improvement from last year. We will gain a little next year from the better recruits who will be freshmen. But it will take 2-3 more years before we will see much difference abd get back to a bowl game. I don't plan to watch much football this year unless there is nothing else to do. Come on BB.

Neal Brown is a Hal Mumme disciple and he put up huge offensive numbers at his last job.
I was at the first Hal Mumme coached game and the offense kicked but. Yes, they had Tim Couch back then.
What I saw yesterday did not look like the air raid. The air raid worked at UK in the past and has worked at many other schools. The starting QB did not look like a guy that was prepared to throw the ball around. Sure did not expect the Cats to have such an impotent offense. Was it the QB play or half on the receivers? Not sure, but I hope they get things worked out.
I was very disappointed in the offense as a whole and the linebacker play on D. [ 09-01-2013, 02:04 PM: Message edited by: boomdaddy ]

Yup. We couldn't stop them more times than we could. Our defensive line seemed to be blocked out of plays thru the line most of the time. Our offensive line had too many free men get thru them. We couldn't seem to stop the passes until they had a good gain. What am I saying? This was just a repeat of last year.

Our defense appears to running in slow-mo all the time. How many times did WKU's running backs turn the corner on us? I lost count.

After watching the game I thought JOker and his staff were still there. No defense, them throwing at will and running at will, couldn't contain the qb. Where was the air raid. Looked like Joker also, short passes, always in front of the defense, our qb didn't run.
Any looked liked a mirror image of last year to me.
It certainly wasn't anything close to Hal Mumme's offense!

Q back change should have happened much earlier, If the D cant stop them then we have to out score them...Simple, right? Still, what could they have seen in Jalen that made him grade out so much higher than Smith and Towles...
Gotta' wait two more yrs I guess ![[Roll Eyes]](rolleyes.gif)

I was surprised to see whitlow start ahead of Maxwell smith, you will never convince me that whitlow is the better of the two. If we where running the read option maybe but this is supposed to be the air raid. Put smith in please coach.

It's a lot more than which quarterback starts, we need better players at nearly "every" position if we expect to be a factor in the SEC. It's going to take time to accomplish the things we need to do to get better. We as fans just have to realize that it isn't going to happen over night and we need to stand by the program which includes not only the players but the coachs and everyone else that is involved with the team.
