University of Louisville defensive line coach Clint Hurtt is taking a leave of absence while preparing to address the NCAA and its notice of allegation.

The NCAA accused Hurtt of receiving impermissible benefits while he was an assistant at the University of Miami. The letter of allegations also stated that he received a loan of $2,500 from rogue booster Nevin Shapiro, who is a convicted felon.

The Cards began spring practice on Wednesday. U of L coach Charlie Strong said Hurtt would be better served focusing on fighting his case.

"We have given him time enough where he can concentrate on his case, and we have given him that time," Strong said. "It’s good that he is doing that because with the many distractions he can’t do the job that we ask of him."

Hurtt is also the recruiting coordinator for the Cards. He will go before the NCAA committee on infractions sometime this summer to respond to the allegations.

Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich said last month Hurtt would remain on the Cardinals’ staff while his case is pending but stopped short of saying he’d be with the program next season.

This could get awfully mess'y for the Cards as they had to know what was going on...
