OK need some input - with only a few seconds to go in the game and OK leading TX, TX lined up for an offside kick and OK put all 12 guys up close to the 10 yard spot from tx. Then the TX kicker kicked it over the heads of the OK players heading toward the end zone. The ball almost stopped at the 1/2 inch line but trickled into the end zone where a OK player picked it up and the Ref blew the play dead.

Now to me that was wrong - since the OK player picked it up and did not take a knee then it was a live ball and Tx could have tackled him for a safety. In this case the player gave it to the ref after he fielded it in the end zone. (assume the ref whistled it dead).

Any thoughts? [Confused]

To start with it was an illegal play if OK had 12 men on the field. [Big Grin] Seriously, to be a safety OK would have to been in possesion of the ball prior to it crossing the goal line for a safety. Since TX put it there it is a touchback. I would guess that handing the ball to the ref is the same as touching your knee.
