Author Topic: Who is going to replace Meyer at Florida? catmandoo Player Member # 1284 posted 12-27-2009 10:33 AM                     They have plenty of options and Charlie Strong is one of them although it probably isn't their first choice. He recently agreed to terms as the Louisville head coach, but he technically hasn't signed a contract, so Florida could theoretically "promote" him to the head coach position. However, Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel is saying that it won't happen. That makes sense, since Strong may feel obligated to honor his commitment to Louisville, and a rejection from him would look bad for the Gators. My opinion is that if they intended to hire him, Meyer would have let him know about the impending vacancy earlier, and given Strong the chance to take over for him.. Dan Mullen - This is the most realistic one, in most people's minds. If, as rumored, Meyer is to remain highly involved in the football program, then Mullen is likely Meyer's first choice. Mullen worked under him at Bowling Green, Utah and most recently as the offensive coordinator at Florida, leaving to coach Mississippi State last year. ESPN's Bruce Feldman hints that it's not going to happen, due to Mullen's relative inexperience. Steve Spurrier - We've seen the visor at Florida in the past, with remarkable results. Now, he's working on bringing South Carolina to the top, and it's just not the same. Could we see a return to the place where he made a name for himself, creating Heisman winners and a National Championship? Not likely, but it would be fun to see. Bobby Petrino - He's not afraid to leave a program after barely any time there, so his contract at Arkansas is hardly an issue. He's a damn good coach, as he proved with Louisville, and he could do very well at Florida. Steve Sarkisian - He worked under Carroll at USC, and now he's already turning Washington around, including some huge wins over USC and Cal. He might be a little green for Florida's liking, but the same could be said of quite a few gentlemen on this list. Tommy Tuberville - He has expressed a desire to get back into coaching, and the former Auburn coach has shown the ability to succeed in the SEC. His time might be over, but I thought that he did a great job in Auburn for many years.
