Why is the Big East a BCS Conference??!!
What coach looks at the pinnacle of their career as coaching in the Big East? To me, a BCS Conference should be in the top tier of all conferences.
Right now, there are two Big East coaches in the running for the Notre Dame job. Rodriquez went from WVU to Michigan, and Petrino went to the Falcons, but ended up at Arkansas.

The ESPN banner is showing that Kelley is going to accept the job at Notre Dame. Stupid move on his part. JMO

I agree with your original post, BCM.
I mean the coach of the year for the Big East has packed his bags for N Dame. SO obviously that tells you that even when a team in that conference goes undefeated, the best they can do is finish 5th in the country!!
The top 2 teams from that conference might finish mid pack in the SEC or Big 12!!

I think the answer to your question is the deal was negotiated when the BCS came into being. It really make no sense for any conference to have a guarantee to be in the BCS bowls. After all, what if a conference which has a BCS alliance has NO teams which finish in the top 20? Does that mean their conference winner still gets one of the top 8 slots? If so, that's just one more reason the BCS is always coming under attack.
PS-Hasn't Notre Dame learned yet that you just can't take ANY coach from a Division 1 school and turn ND around? It's going to take a special coach to get them back to the top. [ 12-10-2009, 09:15 PM: Message edited by: bayer ]

Really. I mean, it Notre Dame. It isn't like they don't have the money to spend on a top tier coach.
They need to go after an Urban Meyer or a Mack Brown type of coach. Maybe even see if they can get Lou Holtz back for a little while... ![[Big Grin]](biggrin.gif)

They need a Notre Dame man. I think Regis Philbin is successful with whatever he touches, why not make him coach? Bet he could recruit!

I hear Jerome Bettis has some free time on his hands. Perhaps he could get Rocket Ismail to be his wide receiver coach.
