Ho-hum, we lose to Vols again.
The inability to complete a pass really hurt.
I thought Cobb was used too much in first half and wore down. Would have liked to see Fidler get a shot at QB in 2nd half.
Still a good season with a Bowl trip coming up, but oh what could have been [Confused]

We had our shots and blew them,poor play calling after the gift fumble in the 4th,never even looked like we wanted to score a touchdown at that point and we had to score a TD ,not a field goal,we were beat as soon as it went to ot.

Yeah, DT,I thought so too. TN was the dominant team in second half, and I knew we likely lose in OT.

We were just to one demensional on offense this year. Either we had a QB who coulsn't complete a pass or the recievers would drop good balls.

10 passing yards in teh second half is worse than most high sceams!

The second half really was very disapointing to watch. As for when it will end....who knows. At this point I say never. So frustrating, especially living right on the KY/TN border like I do and where half my co-workers are from TN.

Personally, I ws dissapointed that UK abadoned the running game and bet the farm on the passing of the frosh QB. I don't blame the young QB. I just scratch my head on the play calling at the end of the game. They couldn't execute simple short passes.

I did notice that the fullback and Cobb were both dinged up. But, they shoulda still ran the ball, imho.

To make it even worse we went from a possible 2nd place in the SEC East meaning that we could have had a Outback bid and the possibility of a Cotton Bowl bid to being just where the pundits said we would be "5th place just ahead of Vandy".

Basically our whole season hinged on that one game!

Morgan looked like a true freshman this game - never saw SO MANY wide open receivers and he would overthrow EVERY time.

O Well - if we are lucky (because we tvl well) we could get a Chick fil a bowl in Atlanta other wise it's probably the Papa John Bowl!! [Frown]

p.s. if we couldn't beat Tenn this year - we not not never in all of our lifetimes!!

I'll have to agree ukcatfannfl. This was the year if we were ever going to break the streak. I don't think I'll ever live to see us beat UT.
I really thought this would be the year but to no avail. 7-5 is not bad though. I'm looking forward to seeing which bowl we get.

Unless I am mistaken, we finished 3rd in the SEC East. We were tied with Georgia, but we beat them head to head, thus we are 3rd in the East.

But, to answer the original question "when will it ever end?" It's not going to end until we can get more quality player in skill positions and bigger players in the down lineman positions. All you had to do last night was watch the game and you could easily see that while UK had 4-5 good to great athletes, UT at 15-20 good to great athletes and this was a good year for UK and a down year for UT.

The name of the game in college football is quality depth. UT has it, we don't. This is not a knock on Coach Brooks or his staff. it's just the way things are. We are too far north to get the great players from the south, too far south to get the great players from the north, etc etc. Until we find a way to get the players legally, we will have to be happy to be 7-5 and going to a bowl game, albeit a lesser bowl game, each year or most years or some years.

The worst thing about this loss is this will be the last time that UK will be on a relatively equal talent level with UT. It is a certainty that Kiffin and Co. will outrecruit Brooks/Phillips — must be considered a single entity — and will continue to build on last year's recruiting haul — eventually rivaling UF in talent. All the while UK will continue to settle for 2 and 3* players with the hope of increasing their talent — a proven hopeless task. For those of us longtime fans (60 years) it is an accepted fact and one that while disappointing once accepted reduces the angst and frustration to an acceptable level. On this Thanksgiving weekend it is worthwhile to focus on the words of a person who should know, Stephen Hawking:

“When one's expectations are reduced to zero, one really appreciates everything one does have”.

It hinged on that last drive. The Wildcat offense was working well, got us to the 10 yard line, why not continue into the end zone? Cobb was beat to death but he still had some fire in him. One tackle away from 2nd place. We slid all the way to 5th on that play after a pretty successful season beating AU and UGA when we normally wouldn't. That MSU loss hurt too, could have been 4th place instead.

I don't know whether I would go that far or not. Before this season started I think most of us would have been content to finish 7-5 and be going to our 4th straight bowl (first time in school history). That, of course, would have been before we knew we were going to lose our starting QB for the latter part of the season, not to mention all the other injuries we had during the season. While I recognize every team has injuries, as I have said over and over again, UK is so thin in talented players, there is very, very small margin for error.

But, we sit here today all think of what could have been--10-2, with a little luck. On the other hand, given the loss of Mike Hartline, playing a true freshman at QB, we could also just as easily be 5-7. So, all in all, I am one fan that is very pleased with the result.

Without it we went to just about where most people thought our record would be and especially the 5th place finish in the east - so I would go so far as to say that!

The USC game can be blamed on the injuries of our 2 starting DBs. They threw deep on UK, any time they felt llike it. As for the Miss State game, the Cats just let them run the ball down their throats.

And this past UT game, I just see it as a poor play calling and execution on offense. UK had the opportunity and threw it away.

I'd posted before that the coaching staff had cost us a couple possible victories. This was another. The kids played a 9-3 season. The coaches coached a 7-5 season.

I think that a lot of the success we had running the ball was due to Conner -- he is an extraordinary lead blocker out of the backfield. When he got hurt, our running game went south in a hurry. When that happened, our entire offense basically collapsed.

Hard to blame Joker or Brooks for that. As much as I like the Turtle when he has the ball in his hands, he just didn't have the blocking ability that Conner had.

BTW, anybody know if Conner will be back for our bowl game?

For what it is worth, I think UK will beat UT at some point in the next few years if the Cats keep putting up bowl-caliber seasons but this was discouraging to watch. So close, yet so far...
