This is really a good sign as last year we struggled to find players who could even catch the ball.

The injury bug took another bite Thursday morning as the UK football team began its two-a-day practices.

Brett Dawson of the Courier-Journal reported that sophomore wide receiver Randall Cobb suffered a minor back injury during practice and was only able to go for about half of the practice. The Cats are hoping to have him back by Saturday.

With Cobb’s injury and Aaron Boyd’s suspension, one would think UK’s wide receivers have taken a bit of a hit is summer camp. Head coach Rich Brooks said they’re into that stage of camp where there are a lot of minor injuries with some of the guys, but he has been very encouraged with his pass catchers, most notably with junior-college transfer Chris Matthews.

“The receiving corps is night and day better than it was at this time last year – night and day,” Brooks said. “How that will translate, we’ll have to wait and see. Who they’re going to be, we’ll have to wait and see because the competition is pretty severe.
