It took time to get adjusted but once he did he looked good.
Randall Cobb thought starting would be just like coming off the bench.
Turns out, the University of Kentucky quarterback wasn't quite as cool a customer as he'd hoped. The true freshman made his first start at quarterback yesterday and helped lead the Wildcats to a 14-13 win against Mississippi State.
But amid the clanging cowbells at Davis Wade Stadium, Cobb at times showed his inexperience.
"I put a little pressure on (myself) before the game, and I believe in the first couple series, I was thinking too much," he said. "I was trying to worry about too many other things than just going out there and playing football. Once I settled down and got into a rhythm, everything was fine."
Ironically, it took playing receiver to get Cobb comfortable at QB.
He shifted to wideout in the second quarter, when backup QB Mike Hartline entered the game, and caught three passes for 33 yards. Getting hit, Cobb said, helped him get loosened up.
In the second half, he played at times like a veteran, guiding UK on two third-quarter touchdown drives.
