I read on another site that he likes to play
aggressive defense. Likes to blitz more that
Arher did. We'll see.

That's what I figured was going to happen. I thought UK would probably promote from within the ranks. Steve Brown seems like he's a more aggressive type of play caller. It could be an Interesting season come September.

No surprise. Brown has done a fine job improving and teaching correct technique to the DBs. That group's apparent struggles stem from the lack of a consistent pass rush. Hope that Brown will be more aggressive than Archer, particularly between the 20s.

I like this pick. He knows the players, the players know him, and his charges this year were the ones who noticeably improved. If he is indeed an advocate of a more aggressive, attacking defense, then I am even more in favor of this move.
Going after the Big Names is not a bad idea, but it doesn't always pan out as well as one might expect. Some reasons off the top of my head:
Big Names are used to having Big Talent.
Big Names often bring Big Egos with them -- sometimes fomenting dissention among the staff and players.
Big Names often specialize in a single method, which may or may not match the current personnel.
Ron Hudson was a Big Name, having perfected an offensive scheme that propelled Kansas State into national prominence. He flopped at Kentucky.
Mike Archer was a Big Name, who stuggled mightily at UK, only showing some success in the last two or three games this season. Now, another school has gambled on that Big Name -- best of luck NC State!
There are a lot of good football minds out there, and most of them haven't been annointed as a Big Name yet. Perhaps Steve Brown will prove himself as the next Big Name. I think that Joker Phillips is on that path as well!

let's not forget that archer gave up a very lucrative job to come here and help get us out of the messsy situation of heavy sanctions. he had little of talent to work with and what few scholarships we had to give went heavily to the offensive side of the ball. i am not saying that was wrong but it certainly hampered archers chances of being a lot more succesfull. he nevered complained and did his job the best he could with the cards that were dealt him. we owe him a debt of gratitude for all the work he has done for the program. i will always be a archer fan not only for his dedication but for the way he handled himself under a lot of pressure and criticism.
