Depends on how much crying Spurrier does. Anyone want to lay a wager as to how many times he throws his visor this weekend?
Good to have you two guys aboard. Where have you been the rest of the year?

I'm thinking that this might be a pretty high scoring game.
If our defense shows up, this will be a pretty exciting game. I'm really looking forward to seeing UK finally defeat Spurrier.

That's the key, Brandon. And I'm not sure our "D" is good enough.

Hello Cats this one should be an interesting game. I think it comes down to who show's up first your defense or our offense.

Make no mistake, UK will make USC have to play defense and play it pretty intensely. If one of the DB's for Carolina decides to take a play off, he might find himself chasing Mr. Burton or Mr. Lyons into the endzone.
We know about Mr.Rice and what he's capable of doing.
But something has to be done to get UK's defense on track. UK looks good vs. the run at times, but it's the inability to defend against the pass that's killing us.
How many times vs Central Michigan did UK have them in 3rd down and REAL long only to give up the big pass play and a first down?
UK can't get away with that vs USC.
You USC guys probably won't see much smack being thrown around the football board yet. We're getting better, but we're not at the point where we can boast and brag yet. Hell, we still cheer like crazy when we get first downs...

That's why the PA announcer yells," FIRST DOWN KENTUCKY!!! "

3-2, isn't that about the best we could hope for at this point? Sure it would be nice to have defeated either UL or UF but realistically that was a fantasy. Now we come to what seems to me to be a watershed game. From what I've seen USC is the better team -- not a large gap but a gap nevertheless. That gap is closed somewhat by the fact that Cats are at home. If UK can somehow shore up its defense it will be a competitive game, otherwise it's a "who can score most and last" game. If that happens my money is on the Old Ball Coach. A win and Cats are 4-2 and a bowl game becomes a probability rather than a possibility; a loss means 3-3 and 3 more w's become problematic. I'll be listening.

FWIW-the Sagarin Ratings have ranked UK 54 and USC 55 with UK being a 3.67 favorite playing at home. As I said, FWIW.

we should be very proud of the cats as they have played very well and even though we lost to florida i think it was the best we have played this year. i do think however that it still is going to take at least another couple of years of good recruiting and and filling in our depth chart before we can safely say we are a team that has the ability to knock off some of the big boys in the sec...we have been the doormat for many years and you just don't turn it around overnight..south carolina played extremely well taking auburn to the very end before losing a very close game...we can win but everything will have to go in our favor for that to happen. i for one will not be surprised to see us get beat but also wouldn't be surprised to see us win either. that may sound strange but that's the way i see it..
Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 10-03-2006, 08:27 PM:
Catmandoo are you saying we have a 50/50 chance of winning? Those are pretty common odds.
Posted by Brandon (Member # 108) on 10-03-2006, 09:26 PM:
I would say we are as good as South Carolina right now. This is a game UK really needs to notch in the win column though. A win would do wonders for the moral and psyche of the team.
No doubt about it, UK is a program that is several seasons from being able to consistently hold their own against the top teams in the conference, but at least running in the race instead of still sitting at the starting blocks while the rest of the conference laps us over and over.
When UK gets to the point where they can consistently beat the USC's, the Mississippi's, the Arkansas's, as well as put up at least a good effort against the elite of the conference, then we'll be on our way. When 6 win season expectations start becoming 8 win season expectations, we will have moved up to the next level. And it doesn't hurt to get some bowl games either. If UK wants recruits, they need to get to bowl games.
I like the position that this program is in right now. It's kind of a make your own destiny type of situation. A few more of the right kind of players in the right positions and UK could look like a pretty decent football team.

If we lose to USCarolina, I can envision several of the negative posters reappearing. They have been relatively silent since the Louisville game. I could name names, but I won't.

I really think we can win this game but if we don't we are still on track to win six and go bowling. USC was not listed in the "six win" pre-season predictions.
And as I've mentioned before, I don't think Mike Archer is our guy for defense. Coach Brooks made a change when it was realized Ron Hudson wasn't the one for offense and look what's happened under Joker. I fully expect the same type change will occur at season's end regarding the defensive coordinator.

Also, yes, Mike Archer hasn't done much for us since returning to UK. Our defense has consistently stunk and it is 118th out 119 in the nation right now apparently. Fortunately, our offense is outstanding and keeping us above water (.500)

Vegas has us as 41/2 to 5 point dogs(opened at 61/2).
If it is a close game, one would think the crowd will be a major factor. Don't know what we'll do, but I look at USC as a winnable game. If we win, then 7 w's will not be a stretch. If we find we are not as good as USC, then the "pre-season 6th win"(Vandy) becomes a lot tougher.
GO CATS!
