Well, I couldn't watch the full game, as I had a "social obligation". I did manage to watch most of the 2nd and 3rd quarters. While it was painful to watch, I tried to be objective in my viewing. Here are my observations:

twenty-eight to nothing? I don't know how in the hades we got down 28-0, but that is a real thrill-killer to tune into! Somebody please fill me in. Given Bush's numbers, I might guess that they simply did a surge-rush and Bush broke through off-tackle at will. He was a hoss!

Bush for President! Well, there is at least ONE Bush that gets postive ratings these days. like I said above, what a hoss!. I have to say that I am very sorry to see him go down. Regardless of my dislike for UofL, he was a legitimate Heisman candidate, and a lock on a high NFL draft pick. Here's to a quick recovery, a red-shirt year, and a solid future for that young man.

Now, for specific comments on UK:

Woodson! By the time I started watching, Woodson looked to be solid. His fumble-recovery-pass to Burton showed poise and confidence beyond the pale. I was duly impressed with his patience in the pocket, his check-off on the receivers, and his delivery. The long ball will definitely be a weapon this year.

Burton! Wow. I mean, WOW. That young man is simply stellar. Great hands, and my goodness, what a great open-field runner! That bubble-screen pass play for a TD was spectacular! Tiptree hopes he stays healthy all season for a change, 'cuz he looks like NFL money to me...

O-line Decent job protecting the passer, but the running game (such as it was) never looked too impressive. Of course, I counted maybe three running plays during the half-game that I watched. Did we try to run the ball early in the game?

Receivers Strickland looked good, and who told Lyons that he was an A-list receiver? [Big Grin] But, either Woodson puts too much heat on the ball over the middle, or Tamme still can't catch a pass. I was really looking forward to the pass to the TE to be a valid option in the offense, but perhaps it will still develop.

Running backs Did we have any? Another supposed "strength" that never materialized. [Roll Eyes]

D-line Pass rush was marginally effective. Run defense was simply attrocious. I mean, really, really attrocious. I thought this was supposed to be the strength of our defense this year. Oopsie.

Linebackers Looked OK, except on short pass coverage. With such a porous D-line, though, they had a lot of tackles that should never have been. Too their credit, they did swarm to the ball well, but on the blitz, they were easily blocked and got burned on that short out to the flat waaay too often.

D-backs Actually, not bad. If we could have contained the run a bit better, this might have been a bright spot for us.

Overall: Once the Woodson/Burton/Lyon show began, the offense had a glimmer of hope. Add in a viable running game, and it would look even better. But that defense was simply awful. Much as I hate to malign a coach, Archer has proven that he cannot coach college defense. BTW, did Micah ever see any action?

Can UK still win six and get to a minor bowl? Yes. But we need to correct the run/pass ratio, find a TE that can catch Woodson's passes, and get some guys on the D-line that can bring down a running back.

I second that emotion. I hate to see any young man(or old one for that matter) go down that way with an injury that terminates his college or professional career. I might have a mighty dislike for UofL, but I wanted to see this kid excel beyond his wildest childhood dreams. Hopefully, he'll be able to re-habilitate and still continue a professional career in the NFL. They work hard to get where they are to be such superior athletes. My best wishes for the BUSHMEN(both of them...even the one with the 'bad ratings'). [Wink]

Not that I remember (shellshocked?), but another board shows him with 6 solo tackles, and 7 overall.

I don't think UK was ready when the game started. They have a possible win in the next game so let's see what happens before we pronounce them same old same old stuff. If this is what we really have you can look for another 2 or 3 win season and a clean house next year. [Confused]

the cats sure didn't look good but i thought there was areas that they did show some hope. burton is going to be playing on sunday's as he is definitely a talent. woodson although not the best runner on the team did show some signs of being able to run the offence and also showed he does have a good arm and leadership qualities..our running game did not show up last night but they do have talent and will have better games. the offensive line is not the best but i thought they did show some signs of being better than last year. the defence, well they just have a long way to go and it's hard to find anything good to say about them, especially giving up over 600 yards...

1) Micah Johnson saw a lot of time in the second half; there was a three-play stretch where the PA announcer said his name on each play. he was making his presence known.

2) I'm glad that for the first time in a LONG time, UK didn't throw in the towel. They fought and tried to come back, and that's what impressed me. This deep passing game is gonna open up the run, and it's shown everyone else how to beat UofL. They're done for.

3) I hope Bush gets better; I played against him in HS and he's a good guy. Freakish athlete who can help put KY/Louisville HS football on the map when he gets into the NFL.

4) My dog could coach the UK defense better than Mike Archer. I was calling for that bubble screen in the FIRST QUARTER, when UofL was blitzing non-stop....guess Joker/Rich don't know Football 101--if a team is blitzing every play, hurt them with screens and draws; instead, they called long-developing pass plays and runs to the outside.

It would have made a huge difference if we could simply tackle. There were way to many times that we were "there" and simply tried to arm tackle the ball carrier. Of course, we have been doing that for about three years now, and it has never changed.

I have been a supporter of giving this staff time, but I think the time is running out. I do not see them taking this team, especially the defense in any direction that appears to be positive. They have more talent than they ever have and they look the same as always.

I will give them a few more games and hope I have to eat my words, but I am really dissappointed in what I saw.

GA Cat, can't disagree with anything you said. I've been on the bandwagon also, but this can't get much worse.

There is only one word to describe this team MISERABLE!!!!!The defense was on the field way too much. Joker lived up to his name. Brooks had no idea what to do. I think this team may win one game, OPEN.
