Petrino will make $1.6million in base salary next season. But he'll also have more than $700,000 available in performance incentives, plus a $1million loyalty bonus if he's still the coach through next June. Those bonuses and incentives could push his compensation to a level occupied by only a handful of college football coaches.
He'll still trail Rick Pitino, who makes $2.8million a year plus incentives as UofL's basketball coach.

In my opinion Petrino deserves to be paid up there with the best. It's very tough to take a city school that has no real state-wide home base for recruiting and get to the top--or to stay there. I'm not so sure UofL will be among the top 20 once Brohm and Bush are gone, but that remains to be seen. And Kentucky having a small total population and a very small portion of blacks just makes it even tougher than it might be in, say, Florida or Texas.
Now what I want is for Brooks to have a couple of such good seasons that he can rival Tubby in 2008 (when he gets his new 5 year contract) for salary! [ 08-06-2006, 03:30 PM: Message edited by: StJames ]
