It's a good article and hopefully Stoops and Barnhart can keep the coaching staff in intact.

Stoops and Barnhart are doing their best to keep the coaching staff as it is now. Kudos to their hard work.

I doubt you need to worry about Elliot. After Stoops took on a more active role with the defense, Elliot was relegated to a position coach, overseeing the outside linebackers. From the article linked above:
quote: During spring practices, special teams coach Andy Buh, who also coached outside linebackers, left to take the unexpected defensive coordinator opening at Maryland. Then Stoops brought in Matt House to coach special teams and defense.
That prompted even more movement in the offseason, which included defensive coordinator D.J. Eliot coaching the outside linebackers and House overseeing the inside linebackers.
That is a demotion in plain sight. I suspect he will either stay at that position, or leave. [ 12-27-2016, 11:23 PM: Message edited by: Tiptree ]

Elliot came with Stoops from FSU. I would be very surprised if he fires him. As for Stoops taking a hands on approach to the defensive side of things, maybe UK could have gotten over the hump, the last few seasons instead of just now making a bowl, had he done it from the get go.
Stoops should have jumped in from day one, with the defense. That is why he was hired. He was supposed to bring something special to the defense.

I don't read it that way. Stoops was hired to be a head coach, and it was presumed that his experience as a DC would allow him to bring a talented DC into the fold.
Instead, he brought his buddy Elliot, and that proved to be pretty darn ineffective. By last season, the heat was getting intense, and Stoops had to move to save his job. But, rather than fire Elliot, he basically demoted him to a highly overpaid position coach, and Stoops himself is now effectively the Defensive Coordinator.

Tip - I agree about Elliot. He doesn't seem to be a good hire for that position.
I do disagree about the Head Coach. Head Coaches are expected to, above all else, win games. Stoops had no previous HC experience. He was hired because of his resume on the D side. Not expecting Stoops to have a great amount of input, if not close to total control of the D is like hiring Petrino and expecting him to only do his HC duties and have no input on the O.
I am not saying your wrong. We just read the situation different.
Now, if Elliot were to be let go and Stoops hired a veteran DC with a history of success, he may turn the reigns over to the DC. That's how I see it. I still think Stoops will coach Elliot up and keep him.
