It would be a big boost to the program if we could sign someone with the talent of Harris.

Damien Harris has been to Kentucky for visits and even his mother, Lynn Harris, admits she is surprised at how highly he thinks of UK now compared to before the arrival of Mark Stoops as head coach and Neal Brown as offensive coordinator.

“It shocked me because a year ago they were not even a top priority, but now he seems to be really interested in Kentucky. We are getting to know the staff more and more and enjoy visits. They are really, really nice. So who knows what could happen.”

The Madison Southern star says he “loves” Stoops and his staff.

“When they came in, I was the first player he came to visit. He didn’t try to sell me anything. He just told me to give us a chance that we can prove we can turn things around. So I did. I got to know coach Brown, coach (Chad) Scott. I really like the coaching staff and what they are doing,” Harris said. “I can tell they are turning things around and they are going to change the program.

“Now as much as I wish had time to see what they do, unfortunately I only have another year. Hopefully I will be able to decide whether they have made enough improvement for me to really want to go there. But I love it. It is close to home. I wouldn’t have to go very far away from my mom and she would be right here with me. I could be a hometown hero. So if it is best for me, that is where I will end up. If not, then I will end up somewhere else.

“It is not all about wins and losses per se. My freshman year, we were 2-10. Then my sophomore year we went 7-5 and this past year we went 10-2. You can tell improvement on the field. It does not always go in the win column. But you can see improvement on the field, the players’ desire to want to play for the coaching staff to get better. It’s not necessarily all about wins and losses. It’s a feeling I will get about whether they are improving.”
