Kentucky’s top baseball signee in the 2021 recruiting class recently had surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament. Right-handed pitcher Travis Smith, who is ranked No. 78 nationally by Perfect Game, had Tommy John surgery last week and will spend the next year rehabbing before returning to the mound.
“He had the procedure last week with (Timothy) Kremchek and all went well,” Walton Verona High School coach Clint Coleman told Catspause.com.
Smith earned all-state honors as a senior and generated MLB draft buzz this spring after tossing multiple no-hitters. He started seven games as a pitcher and recorded a 4-2 record with a 3.41 earned run average. Smith struck out 78 batters and walked just 15 in 35.2 innings of work.
