Andruw Jones won't be back with Atlanta. He was there from the start, it just won't seem right seeing him in a different uniform. I would love to see him with a cub uniform on as i bet he still has a few good years left, even if he only hit .220 this year.

Right from the start, Andruw Jones made it clear he was going to be a very special player for the Atlanta Braves.

As a 19-year-old rookie, he hit two homers in his very first World Series game -- at Yankee Stadium, no less.

For a dozen years, he dazzled Braves fans with his defense, making diving catches look routine and crash-into-the-wall grabs part of the norm. He also developed into one of baseball's top sluggers, hitting 51 homers in 2005.

But Jones' run in Atlanta is over.

General manager John Schuerholz announced Tuesday that the Braves won't attempt to re-sign Jones, saying they can't afford to keep him in the organization he's played for his entire career.

Sad to see him go but there is no question it was impossible to keep him financially within the Braves' budget - particularly when his batting fell off so badly this year. Scott Boras asked for 7 years, 140 million. I don't think he will get nearly that but think someone will be getting a stud defensive OF with a good power bat. Best wishes to Andruw.

I knew the braves were gonna have a hard time throwing 140 million at Jones. As a braves fan, I wish we could have resigned him, but obviously it was not possible. I will still pull for him and it is dissapointing to see a guy who has stuck with one team for so long, being let go.

Best luck to Andruw

Really hurts his chances at the HOF (although I still think he will make it). Marginal Hall players like Chipper, Biggio, Bagwell, Smoltz all become near locks because they did what is so rare these days: played their entire career for one team. Unless he turns around and has 5 or 6 solid years down the stretch and pushes his HR total up to 600, he'll go down as a very good, but not great player.
