So, the "settlement" has occured, NIL is a thing, and schools can now pay players directly. The transfer portal still allows players to jump ship at any time, with no penalty.
Does anybody like this?

I only watch UK basketball. while I hate the new standard of operations, I still love the team. But I can see how that could sway as the numbers in the checkbook become clearly more important than the name on the front of the jersey.
I'll add that Coach Pope's drive demeanor greatly influence my current status.
Just my $.02

NIL was a fine concept - let a kid go get endorsements. Nothing wrong with that. Cooper Flagg reportedly made $22M last year at Dook by way of two endorsements. I don't have a problem with that at all.
But the fact of flat out paying them to go to college for something other than building a future that will make the world a better place - just don't like that.
While I despise the transfer portal, I can get past the NIL issue. What really kills me about college basketball is the rules. It's almost unbearable to watch games anymore. I'm to the point where I typically just watch UK. I've heard some changes have been made for this year that I believe will make it better. We shall see.

I agree that college sports is spiraling out of control. I struggle and like you I only watch UK games.
It’s just devoid of anything amateur.
Honestly coach Pope is a main reason for watching. I love his enthusiasm and positivity.

In my opinion the NCAA has screwed up so massively in it's attempt to govern college "amateur" sports that they have just given up. Their processes were so random, took way to long to adjudicate and enforce, and they were so selective in who they looked at that they made themselves a laughing stock. They have in essence let the game (that being the nil and transfer game) be played then created rules and guidelines that went along with how the member institutions and their donors went about their business so that no one was outside the lines.

Dem lines must be VERY far apart to encompass the rampant flood of money today.

That is my point Tip, it almost seems to me like they are letting the process determine the lines in place of them drawing lines, and then enforcing them. We have seen for as long as I can remember that having pre drawn lines do little to harness those who are bent on crossing them.
Today it seems the NCAA are looking to see just how far these donors are willing to go, then make the rules after the fact so they are not required to enforce them.
