UK leads the way to complete professionalism of what used to be called "college athletics".

The entire UK Athletics organization is now a wholly-owned corporation; it is owned by the university, but is not a part of the university. It is very similar to the UK hospital now; a for-profit entity.

All the coaches and administrators, and the athletes, are employees of Champions Blue, LLC. As a private, for-profit institution, the reporting requirements are very different from those of a public university. We may no longer know the coaches salaries, how much athletes are paid, etc., unless the LLC decides to volunteer that information.

The LLC can now raise funds and distribute them in any manner they wish.

RIP college athletics.

dO YOU THINK THAT WILL MAKE SOME KID DECIDE TO COME HERE FOR SCHOOL?? Will they change the rule you only have 4 years to play? Will they become competion for the NBA? Will kids be able to make coning to school a lifetime job??? Whatever is good for whoever sounds about right.

I kinda wonder if certain schools will just become farm, or minor league teams where like in baseball you can be called up, or sent down.

Bama, you raise some interesting questions. The NCAA only has authority over the member schools. I wonder if this new corporate arrangement essentially exempts UK from NCAA oversight? Can the NCAA force UK to force Champions Blue to comply with NCAA edicts?

I doubt this will grant UK sports complete separation from the NCAA, but it is an interesting thought. However, if we don't comply with NCAA rules, then for sure we won't be able to play in NCAA-sponsored tournaments. So, I doubt we could keep kids on the payroll for 6,7, or more years.

Lot's to watch as all this unfolds. It may be more interesting than watching the actual sport. I am rapidly losing all interest in UK basketball and football.

I didn't think my interest could get much lower, but I think it has now.

Oh well, it was pretty refreshing the last few years to not plan my life around games. I just don't really care anymore since it has become Semi-Pro and I use that term lightly because most of the basketball being played in "College" is not good and it is hard to watch.

Apparently the number of NBA early entrants is the lowest in a long time.
Perhaps that is the one benefit of NIL?
I'm not sure that weighs the negative aspects of it.

I just wish they would also limit transfers to one per collegiate career. More than that you sit out a year.
