Thank the Lord!! He should be the starting 2 guard. Hope he has a great year, and starts off like he finished at the end of the season.

I thought he would return from the beginning but when he decided to go to school at IL ST I was very puzzled. But now I think I see the picture a lot clearer. He started looking around at some schools that expressed interest in him and found out the NIL at those schools was not nearly as good as it would be at UK. Without having any insight in this matter I would feel secure enough to bet big money on this. Only problem is I don't have any big money. Being retired we give thanks for the retirement checks we get.

Yes, and I want to thank all of you (that pay taxes) for my retirement check!

Guards, guards, everywhere!
Not a (healthy, proven) big man in sight.

Cal better learn how to play small ball and how to get alot of open 3's. But maybe, Onyensu will be a big surprise.

Actually, from what I understand about Cal's Dribble Drive offense, Onyenso would be a perfect 5.
All the five is supposed to do is be on the block opposite where the ball is on the court, and be ready for a lob, a put-back, or a rebound-and-dish.
The other four players play a four-out offense, cutting and moving to get an easy lane to the basket or an open three.
I wouldn't mind seeing that in action, IF (big if), he can teach them to maintain spacing and make good, crisp passes to the open shooter, and maybe even use screens or pick-and-roll plays from the perimeter.
Just please, don't do the "circle jerk".

I'd guess that he will still bring in another big guy, 6-9 or bigger. Not sure how much help he would be as far down the pecking order he would be.

In Aaron Bradshaw we have the highest rated center in this years class. He is injured but expected to make a full recovery before the start of the season.
Cal has recruited and developed some pretty good big men in the past. At least I assume he played a part in their development. I’m not saying this will happen with Bradshaw but it’s possible.
It’s going to be an interesting year for a variety of reasons.

Oh yes! Plenty of ups and downs like past recent history. It's been 11 years since everything jelled.

Tip the 5 is involved a little more in that he also sets screens for the 3 and the 4 on the corners and there are dd plays for him. just fyi

Ed,
Oh, I am sure I know only a little of the full DD offense; I only know what I could learn from a few YouTube videos back in the day.
Really appreciate your insight as a coach!

not trying to undercut u tip - we used it a lot if we had the right shooters and ball handlers. there are many set "plays" out of the DD mostly for the 1 and 2 but also for the 3 and some for the 4 and 5. Sometimes it looks like they are just DD here and there but there is a method to their madness.
the "movement"or "spread" offense is stricly a screen and fine the open spot weak side. Suppose to allow a 1 on 1 attack and all rebound if missed.. (person closes to half court is the defense if opp gets rebound}

It sounds like it would work, but for some reason, I don't think Cal actually runs it.
But, hope springs eternal. Maybe, just maybe, he will run some recognizable set plays and open up the offense for our guards.
