Grady has proven he is good moving off the ball, and he is good with the ball in his hands. Cal honestly doesn't know how run anything to get him good looks. He just stand on the 3 point line and hopes for a kick out. Ridiculous to have a weapon like that and not even use it.

Brooks allowing the man to strip the ball after a rebound, not completing the alley oop (which was a great pass) and the offensive foul at the end were too much to overcome. Grady and Toppin were ineffective and we still had a chance to the end. Oh, and Arkansas didn’t commit ONE foul in the last 7:55 of the game. Thanks Doug.

I decided to cool off for 6 hours before I got on here. Cal has a 1 track mind and no matter what his favorites do they still play the biggest part of the minutes. Two games in a row that Grady was just about useless except for someone to play pass with. Cal almost lost the last game by playing him 38 or 39 minutes. Tell me this. Is Grady a + or a - when he plays like he has the last couple games. They grade players that way when they are in a game if you are not familiar with that new stat. I would have to give Grady somewhere between a -10 to a -18. I would have thought Hopkins could have given us a +10 at least. Cal is mostly all talk with little action and enginuity. If it isn't dropped in his lap with large letters he tends to forget it happened. I believe he recruits for 5 guys to start and if they don't produce after 1 year he advises them to go in the draft.
Facing the facts, if this team is shooting poorly we may lose one or both of these final 2 games. Our position now is to hope that some other team can help save our asses by beating both of the teams tied with us. Through poor play we have taken ourselves down to a possible 5 seed in the SEC tourney. I have heard there have been a lot of ranked teams lose today, so the voters may not be able to take us lower than #12 for this week.
I guess we can kiss that #1 seed in the NCAA down to at best #2. But most likely we will be a #3 or #4 seed. Our long range shots today we couldn't have hit the inside of the barn standing in the middle of it. All that's left now is to pray for a miracle or we will have wasted another great shot for #9. Those great shots for #9 are starting to pile up about now.

I've said it many times - if Grady isn't raining 3-pointers then he's basically useless. I don't really think it's his fault. I just don't think he's made for Cal's type of offense. Same for Allen. Cal's offense is this - try to recruit NBA-type players and let them dribble and try to beat their man. I don't think he can coach any other type of offense.
I don't see us falling below a 3-seed. We should win our next two games and a couple in the SEC tournament. We could be a two seed if we meet and beat Auburn in the SEC before the Sunday final. The NCAA tournament seeds will be cemented before the SEC tournament final game begins. I still don't know why we play that game on a Sunday. Makes no sense.

Paulcat, you hit the nail on the head in regards to Cal and his offense. I don't blame Kellan at all, because he is obviously doing what Cal tells him to do through the offense. His job is to literally just stand in the corner and wait for a pass. I'm pretty sure the guy knows how to move without the ball when he is given that option in the offense. He sure did it at Davidson for 4 years. This loss was mostly on the coaching, or lack of. Yes, I know Cal didn't miss any shots, or make any turnovers; but he is not getting these guys in the best positions to succeed. Hope we run Ole Miss out of the gym and stomp the Gators in Gainesville. Like this team and love how they have shown they can fight back. Won't even get into our plays, and inbound plays, down the stretch.

I respect y'all and your opinion, but sometimes I think I am seeing a different team than some of you. Yes, a painful loss brings out the gloom, but over the whole season, I am very impressed with Cal, and with this team.
I know Grady was a net negative on Saturday. But, honestly, who else do you want on the floor? Grady is a great spot-up shooter (or rather, a great shooter who can move and create his own shot on the perimeter). He does run to the corner (just like any good team would do with a shooter), but he also moves without the ball, cutting through the paint, getting open elsewhere on the perimeter (not just the corner). But, like any shooter, he can be "off". The good news is that he can also drive the ball and score. He is a decent passer. He can handle the ball in the open court. Not sure how you missed all that, but the Grady I have watched isn't as one-dimensional as "just raining threes".
Also, there is a big disconnect between the very often-expressed lament that "Cal doesn't coach", or he "isn't an x-and-O kind of coach", or "he doesn't make adjustments". Well, sort of. He does like to let his team "figure it out", but that doesn't mean his team is without preparation. He doesn't just "roll the ball out and let 'em play". Surely you noticed that the offense this year is VASTLY better than last year? That we have far better spacing (something everyone called for the last few seasons), we take a lot more three-point shots (another thing everyone wanted), and we don't use that weave nearly as much (mostly at the end of games)? That we actually attack a zone defense the proper way? That we make good, crisp passes to move the defense instead of dribble hand-offs right INTO the defense? Yes? No? Offensively, this offense is significantly improved over the past, yet we still say he doesn't change?
As to playing certain players but not others, yeah, he likes his tight rotation, and it gets tighter as the season goes on. You and I may disagree with that, and we may want to see specific players get more minutes, but that really depends on a lot of things we just don't know. You can mistrust Cal, or trust him, but none of us are in practices, none of us are at the gym late at night, none of us are even at the shootarounds. Give Cal the space he needs to bring the best players to the floor.
Yesterday's game was a narrow loss to a hot, hot team on their home floor. We were let down by poor performances from two of our guards (Mintz was off, and Washington just really wasn't effective). But Tshiewbe! Wow! 30-and-18 is damn impressive. Wheeler contributed, Brooks was a net positive, and yet we lost a squeaker. I don't think this loss will knock us down as far as a 4-seed; I think we may have slipped from a sure 1-seed to a 2-seed. Let's just get everybody healthy and back in the groove for the last few games and earn that 1-seed back again.
I just want to bring a little optimism back to the board. Really, I enjoy this team because of the character of the players and the chemistry. They are a joy to watch, and I just never despair when we are down like I did in past seasons. This is much better than an "above average" team IMO. But, that is JUST my opinion. You are free to differ.

No, it's not "just your opinion". I share it with you. For some people, nothing below perfection is good enough. Personally, I would not swap Cal for any coach out there. If we had a different coach, any coach, he'd be picked apart here, just like Cal is. Just think about it rationally, and tell us what coach you'd rather have. I love this team and am enjoying the season. I get frustrated with Cal but I honestly believe this may be one of his better coaching years. He’s taken player transfers from teams that had radically different systems, along with freshman, and a sprinkling of returnees and successfully meshed them into a very good team.
However, we need to give a lot of credit to assistant coach Huggins. “IF” this team wins a National Championship, I believe we should give Bob a jersey and hang it up there with all the all the folks who have done great things for Kentucky.

I do really like the make up of this team. And overall I felt it was a good loss from the standpoint it was in a hostile environment, against a hot team, and we came back and had a chance to win. I get frustrated though because I felt like we still should have won with just some better offense, and play calls at the end. Cal has done better this year, but we still stick to the circle play quite a lot, and just the normal high ball screen. It just seems this team could be really dangerous with some motion sets where it gets everyone moving, cutting, and screening. With the shooters we have I feel we would be lethal. I just get frustrated because I feel there have been so many years we could have done more with what we had. I'll try to be more positive and focus on the fact that this team plays hard, seems to like each other, and they never quit.

Here's another analogy. We had 3 starters yesterday shot a combined 2-7 from the floor, scored 5 points between them and contributed very little to the success of yesterday's team.
I'm not putting these 3 down because they have given us some great production this season. They just all happened to have a bad game, all on the same day.
Secondly, the top 4 teams in the SEC have a combined 64-1 at home this season. The only loss coming to Ark against Vandy in the first conf game of the season.
We took a very good team to the wire in a hostile environment while 2 of our regulars were shaking off the rust of sitting for a few games. With the exception of Florida, we're almost out of the hostile environment phase of the season. Nuetral courts often seem like home court advantages to KY teams! We're going to be fine! Cal is being considered for National Coach of the Year. I'd say he's having one of his better years as a KY coach!
Heck, even the 2012 National Champ team lost to Vandy during the SEC Tourney before winning the NATIONAL TITLE!

There's not a doubt in my mind that this team can win 6 games in a row, but will they do it, that is the big question. Our shooting runs in streaks. Will it last for 6 games?
