What kind of a team does UK have? It was put together with attention to every detail, from each position to position. Cal went out and got the necessary parts for the Big Blue Machine to thrive. He made sure the bench was deep, although each part did not immediately perform as desired. The only problem was as they started to perform up to expectations the injury bug hit them from all directions. They didn't function as a team from the beginning but as time went on it seemed they had the necessary parts on hand to beat just about any other team. When injuries hit, someone else stepped up to cover for the injured person. Now that the regular season is about to end with UK looking to hang onto 2nd place amidst Arkansas and Tennessee trying to knock them down a notch or two. However it turns out, UK should be one of the SEC teams to get the automatic bye for the tourney. A 2 or 3 seed would be a great position so you save Auburn for the final game, if you make it that far. Last game against LSU? It's good we won, but what a fiasco in the final 4-5 minutes of the game. Why was it so hard to inbounds the ball? The usual excuses especially we had no one that normally inbounded it was available. My thoughts on the final three games? Going to AR means we better be shooting well or praying AR shoots very badly. Not sure if we will see either of our injured guards until SEC Tourney time. Now that Cal has another body he can rely on (maybe) are we able to score more? Our chances of winning drops drastically when we can't reach 70 points in a game. At home against Ole Miss we should be able to win but at FL it will be a different story. In all 3 games Cal better be sure the 5 guys on the floor are playing their best defense for the full 40 minutes or we could lose all 3 games.

This team is above average. A very good team at times. But can it win a national championship? I think a lot of good fortune will be required for a deep run in March. Throwing a ball out and saying "go outscore your opponent" will only take you so far. But unfortunately, that's the coach we've got. When opponents figure things out and play good defense on us, we're usually left clueless. If Oscar would get injured or in foul trouble, I wouldn't bet on us to win.
Today at Arkansas will be a good test. That's a tough place to play, and they are 12-1 since Jan 12 with wins over Auburn, LSU and Tennessee. The only loss was a 1-point loss at Alabama. Vegas has Arkansas as a 2.5-point favorite.

It will be a test, but not a fair test. Without Wheeler and Washington, we are hobbled, operating as a shadow of our full potential.
Yet, we manage to win. Ugly wins, but wins. I like our character as much as I like our skill.
Win or lose at Arkansas, when we get back to a full roster, NOBODY will want to face us.

I have said for years that it takes luck or lucky matchups to win a national title!
Certain teams you don't matchup with as well as others. If someone beats that team before you have to face them, then that's a lucky matchup on your part!

If Arkansas is smart, and saw the LSU game, I would think they would come out pressing the heck out of us. Without Wheeler and Tyty, we could definitely struggle against pressure again. We're gonna need someone to step up again like Bryce did last game. Or it could be him again.

Well, well. Todays game could have been predicted. AR was the favorite today and we couldn't beat the odds. The way we started the game was very predictable. 2-12 or some score like that. Don't know how many mistakes we made during that time but it was way too many. This team is not very good at concentrating or making good decisions at the start of most games. I guess Cal would not have played Washington and Wheeler again if we hadn't gotten down by double digits so quickly. We are not very consistent, except for Oscar. Consistency will take you deep in March and after a whole season we find ourselves looking for some more consistent players except for Oscar. It will be our good shooting if we go deep in either tourney.

Honestly, we only had 5 turnovers in the first half, we just weren't getting any open shots to fall!
We should feel as though we're in pretty good company today, though. The other top 5 teams in the country lost on the road yesterday. Gonzaga lost to unranked St. Mary's by 10 points!

True, but everyone knows Mark Few can’t coach a lick. 😁 [ 02-27-2022, 04:14 PM: Message edited by: handycat ]

Don't intend to offend anyone but back when I was young we used the Polish nationality in a lot of jokes. That's when a lot of people had thick skins. But I'll bet if you put Few and Calipari on a court with a pollock, the pollock would win. I haven't seen the rankings update yet but I just know we fell out of the top 6 because Baylor is going to move back up past us.
