The Kentucky Wildcats have a new walk-on for the men’s basketball team.

This weekend, Isaac DeGregorio announced his commitment to UK as a preferred walk-on:

A 5-11 point guard out of Pennsylvania, DeGregorio led North Catholic to a Class 3A WPIAL championship as a senior this past season. Isaac plays for his father, head coach Dave DeGregorio, and has a previous connection to UK’s John Calipari.

In the early 80s, Calipari was a college point guard at Clarion under then-head coach Joe DeGregorio, the grandfather of Isaac, so that relationship undoubtedly played a part in getting Isaac to Lexington as a walk-on.

As Calipari alluded to in that tweet from 2018, Isaac has a brother who recently graduated from UK.

DeGregorio will join Brennan Canada, Zan Payne, Riley Welch and Ben Jordan as UK walk-ons. It remains to be seen how the rest of the roster will shape out for next season, but it’s good to know UK has more practice bodies and emergency depth if needed.

I watched the video of him and it became boring. All he did was make shot after shot, all 3's. From a couple steps across half court to NBA range. This kid is one of the most accurate 3 point shooters as I have ever seen. He has a rifle for an arm as he made several cross court passes and one length of the court throws that the guy caught and laid it in. He seems to be able to take the ball inside and hit the open man for a shot or a lay in. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if he isn't on scholarship before he leaves. Probably a 4 year player who will be getting some serious minutes before he leaves Lexington. Maybe he'll grow another 2 or 3 inches.

I doubt it will happen. Wife hoped for this our entire married life. She was disappointed.

Cal won't play him unless he can play defense. This has been proven time and time again.

But it would be great to see him come in as a "victory cigar" player and nail a few deep threes to put the nail in the coffin. [Smile]

Nope. I wasn't going to chastise him for being so greedy. I mean, come on, Handy... do you really think you can double the length?
