I just saw a you tube video of coach knight where he returned to assembly on feb 8th you can clearly see he is the most loved person ever in Indiana basketball----and like him or hate him----he was a great coach

Hard to argue about Knight’s coaching ability. With his personality I’m Not surprised Indiana basketball fans idolize him.

But....... the difference between a good program and a great one?........

KY has won 3 national titles under 3 different coaches since the last time IU won a title.

For them it was about a great coach, for us it is about a GREAT PROGRAM!

See the difference?

Good point m Hamilton. Got me thinking and I looked up the list of Indiana basketball coaches. Branch McCracken did win two NCAA tournaments back in the day, which surprised me.

Paulcat, I always said he was a poster child for a bullying campaign for school!

I see handycat beat me too it, but it was most definitely Branch McCracken that was responsible for building IU into a power like Rupp did for Kentucky. Knight just continued it.

McCracken coached Indiana from 1938-1965. His record was 364-174, 67.7%.

His teams were NCAA Champion 2 times 1940 and 1953.
