His name is Michael White, and he was Louisiana Tech's coach, where he went 27-9 last season.

White signed a six-year deal worth about $2 million per year. The 38-year-old Florida native finished 101-40 in four seasons at Louisiana Tech but never coached in the NCAA Tournament. His father is Duke athletic director Kevin White.

Never heard of him. Very surprised as I thought they would have went after more of a name coach. At least on the surface, he adds nothing to the SEC resume.

Hiring that guy is like having to drive a station wagon to the prom, nothing to brag about.

That's a puzzling hire. I wonder if they just want to throw more money at football.

I wouldn't sell White short as he is qualified and was recently named by Jay Bilas and Jeff Goodman the No. 1 up-and-coming head coach in college basketball.

Here are some of his accomplishments as a coach:

LA Tech came within 40 minutes of reaching the NCAA Tournament for the program's first time since 1991, finishing 18-16 on the season which was a six-win improvement from the year before.

White already boasts a 74-31 record. At the 100-game mark, he had the highest winning percentage and the most wins of any coach in LA Tech history.

Prior to coming to Tech White spent the previous seven seasons on the Ole Miss coaching staff and developed a reputation as one of the top assistant coaches in the country.

A finalist for the 2009 Coaches Award presented by BasketballScoop.com - honoring the top assistants in the college game - White was instrumental in the Rebels' rise to prominence in the Southeastern Conference as he helped lead the program to four postseason berths and a pair of SEC West titles in the past five years. The Rebels won 20 or more games four of the last five seasons.

White was very well-known in the recruiting circles nationwide, especially in the Southern region of the country. He helped Ole Miss land three recruiting classes ranked in the Top 25 in the country by numerous recruiting publications, including the 2005 class that was ranked as high as No. 7 by Hoop Scoop.

In addition to his recruiting responsibilities, he worked closely with the Rebel guards, including helping Terrico White who earned the SEC Freshman of the Year award and Freshman All-America accolades in 2009. Ole Miss had five guards named all-SEC during the last five seasons and eight different guards that made seven or more three-pointers in one game during that stretch.

Prior to his stint on the Ole Miss staff, White spent four years at Jacksonville State, helping coordinate the Gamecocks' recruiting efforts for three seasons. White had five recruits named all-conference in four seasons at Jacksonville State. During his time at the school, Jacksonville State also recorded the winningest season in its Division I history in 2002-03 while also recording the program's first-ever league tournament victory.

I think his biggest problem in the beginning will be to attract the big name recruits. He is at a big name school now and he can't last too long if he doesn't get the top Florida kids to come to Florida. You never know how far they will go with him since they are more interested in football.

Billy Donovan's record at Florida last year was less than 50% (16-17) so one would think White will get a few years grace until he has a chance to build the program back up.

According to KSR, he's taking Grant with him. No word on Pelfry.

I remember him when he played at Ole Miss.

--------------------
Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

It would be great if we could find a spot for Pelfrey now that Rohersson is gone.

I don't have any feelings either way about Pelphry. Why would you NOT want him on our staff, Boom?

Pelphrey would make a good assistant coach for any team and glad he got some good experience coaching under Billy Donovan.
