The Cats did not impress me at all last night. They acted arrogant, and like they thought they were "above" playing that little nobody team. Just went through the motions, and were in a hurry to just get it over with. I'll have to say it was the first time I was disappointed with them, this year. If they don't drop that attitude, it's going to jump up and bite them in the butt, and I mean sooner, rather than later. I may be expecting too much out of a bunch of 18-20 year old kids. I don't know.

I'm leaning your way Norm. Not sure I agree 100% with the "attitude" issue, but definitely they didn't seem to be "into" the game.

Norm, I totally agree with your assessment of last nights game. I truly was disappointed in their effort and for the first time this year, it appeared as though they were demeaning themselves by playing this team. I honestly though their defense would hold them to under 50 points. Hopefully this was just a one game funk and they will show up ready to spank Cincy on Saturday. This truly is a special group of young men and I think they knew they did not need a lot of effort to down Hampton. [ 03-20-2015, 11:07 AM: Message edited by: SCWC ]

Absolutely agree! I thought they could go all the way but I am backing down some after last night. I know they tend to play to the competition level but last night, even though they had a 32 point lead at one time, Their shots were the lousiest I've seen all year. All it takes is another game like this from here on and we will be history. I hope Cal can get them back on target before tomorrow because Cincinnati has enough to beat us if we play like this again. Booker is supposed to be NBA material but he sure looked like he's ready to come back next year for some more work. Willie is playing like he wants to come back also. I don't think the scouts could have been impressed by the way we made 1 foot shots all night. Haven't looked to see our shooting percentage but it couldn't be all that great.

I am not disappointed with last nights game. Maybe I am in the minority. They kinda skated. But, that is the spoils from being the number one seed.
I would have had a lot more angst, had one of the players gotten injured late in the game. I am of the opinion, that a coach should clear his bench and play the bench warmers, especially if the margin is way out of hand.
Cincy can not match up with Kentucky. It won't be as easy a game as the first, but the Cats should win going away at a comfortable margin.

I would not generalize them as being arrogant, but the wow-factor of this team does seem to live and die with WCS. He seemed kind of checked out.
The only thing that really concerns me is Devin Booker's slump.

I think it came from trying to keep the score from getting out of hand. The announcers said at the start that they hoped Coach would not run the score up to much. Cats could have easily won by 50+. Just relax. They've done this all year.

WCS made a statement in the press a week or so ago about being called a D player and he said he was a basketball player not just a D specialist.
Yes, he makes some spectacular dunks, but the for a 7 footer, he misses a lot of 2 foot shots around the basket.
I would take KAT as the first player in the draft and WCS as a top 5 and hope that he gets some offensive moves in his arsenal. [ 03-20-2015, 11:50 AM: Message edited by: boomdaddy ]

I sensed an odd vibe, both with Cal and the team last night. Not sure it was arrogance, or even necessarily taking the other team too lightly, but something was odd about the chemistry last night.
One thing that did concern me was that we were playing way too fast, and made too many turnovers and missed too many shots as a result. If we slowed it down and ground it out in the half court, we would have absolutely destroyed them. But instead, we let their frantic pace influence us as well.
I hope that whatever was hanging over the team's collective psyche is gone by tomorrow afternoon.

I think they know teams like Hampton will lose their legs at some point in the game. Maybe they wanted to speed things up to wear the other team down sooner. Cal seemed to be under the weather with a cold or something too judging by the way he sounded during the halftime interview. I'm not too worried about them. I think they're still driven to win it all this time.

I thought, especially in the first half, they were playing too fast as well!

My opinion is that UK lets the other team take it's best shot. Then it's, is that all you got? They clamp down and shut the other team down for a while. Then they tend to coast to victory. I have no problems with the way they are playing. You do not need to blow it all out on a sixteen seed.

We had 12 total points from 2 starters and a key reserve last night. (WCS, Aaron, and Booker)

The best thing we have going for us if the fouls start adding up our depth will be a big factor.

We have 8 players that average over 20 minutes a game plus Dakari and Marcus Lee. Cincy has 7 players that average over 20 minutes but that's about it. We definitely have a big advantage in depth.
