Devin Booker is a player that has two complimentary traits going for him, he is a great shooter, but he is also a great scorer. Booker has not had the same type of success that he saw during the first few games of SEC conference play. However, Booker has not let being the sixth man affect him negatively. Instead of playing like he’s the odd man out, he seems to take the role as the offensive sniper, and this Kentucky basketball team is definitely grateful to have this kid on the team.

Devin BookerI recently wrote an article covering one of Devin Booker’s hot streaks, you can check it out here. But in the article I wrote about how Booker had gone 18-28 from the three-point line over the span, culminating in a big win over South Carolina in Columbia. After that game, various players started carrying some of the weight offensively, and players like Andrew Harrison, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Willie Cauley-Stein were taking up the front pages. However that didn’t mean their freshman stand-out shooting guard stopped producing. If anything he showed that he could find way to score even though he has not been as efficient in the past few games.

He averages the fifth most minutes on the team and has only played twenty-five games, but despite this, he still averages the most points on the team, scoring eleven points per game. He is still the best three-point shooter and free-throw shooter on the team, shooting 45 percent and 82 percent respectively. That just shows the maturity that Booker processes. To work as hard and produce as much as he does even without being to the focal point of John Calipari’s coaching efforts.

Since the South Carolina in Columbia, it seems that he has not been that involved in the team’s success. However in the past seven games he has shot 44 percent from the field, and 78 percent from the free throw line. And despite only shooting 32 percent from the three-point for the past seven games, he still has managed to score 11.71 points per game since that Saturday in Columbia.

Additionally, in 4 of the last 7 games, he has finished with double digit points. And in all three other games, he finished with nine points. Booker is still one of the best players on this team, even on one of his worst nights, and that’s scary potential.

He was even, the highest scoring player in the game against Tennessee, going off, scoring 18 points as the Cats routed the Volunteers in Knoxville. And even though he went 5-16 from the field and 2-9 from behind the arc, he still managed to drop the most points than any player from both teams.

There is a difference between a shooter and a scorer. A shooter is efficient and when they take shots, those shots are most likely going through the net. A scorer’s stats are not going to look as good, but they’re going to find ways to put the ball in the basket, and a scorer is going to fill up the points column no matter the cost. Booker has definitely not been as systematic as he usually is, but that’s what happens to shooters, they go through slumps. However, Booker is using this time to learn how to become a scorer. Even though he is not scoring exactly the way he wants, he is still finding ways to score. Devin Booker is still going to find ways to drop eighteen points on a given night.

Good article, Booker has become a scorer and we will need him big time down the stretch.

He had 3 assists and 4 boards against Auburn in only 21 minutes. He looks to be improving in all facets of his game.

In the Tennessee game no one on the whole Kentucky team had more rebounds than Booker. That is amazing when we had 4 players 6'11 or bigger playing in the game.

Aaron is the only player on the team that took more shots than Booker on Saturday night!

Aaron (12) shots played 6 minutes more in the game than Booker (10) shots did or he would not have taken more shots than Booker.
