Syracuse hasn’t exactly had a clean record in the past decade, and today, in response to an NCAA investigation, self-imposed a postseason ban for the 2014-2015 year “as a further means of acknowledging past mistakes.” The NCAA investigation started in 2007 when Syracuse self-reported possible violations, the nature of which have not been revealed.

Syracuse’s ban means they won’t be eligible for the ACC Tournament, the NCAA Tournament, and the NIT. They weren’t expected to make the Tournament this year, but still…whatever they’re worried will get dug up must be pretty bad.

The hammer’s going to fall and ol’ Jimbo sees the handwriting on the wall for this season. They’ll NEVER make the tournament anyway with the schedule they had left. Hope the NCAA sees thru this farce (which I doubt) and adds more time.

THey probably weren't going to make the tourney anyway, so this makes it easy and they really won't be taking anything away from themselves!

Not a good year for Syracuse and it isn't going to get any better.

The first time in 22 years they won't be in post season!

That shows you just how good of a coach Boeheim has been through the years. Going to the NCAA tournament that many years is very impressive.

The NCAA record for consecutive appearances to the NCAA tournament is 27 years in a row by North Carolina.

Kentucky has the 5th longest record with 17 straight appearances.

BOEHEIM SHOULD BE FIRED THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 8 YEARS NOW. HE WILL GET MORE THAN HE SELF ADMISTERED. TO THEMSELVES.

So you think they'll take a few of his 926 victories away from him?

It will be interesting to see what happens and what actually he has done.

Does anyone think the NCAA will ever do anything to UNC?

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-05-2015, 08:32 PM:

Probably not but you never know they sure have enough evidence on both North Carolina and Syracuse.

THat's what I'm thinking but they sure have been avoiding the subject. You think they are hoping the rest of the country will up and forget about it?

You can bet if it was Kentucky we would have been banned from basketball by now.

That's what I'm getting at, they protect certain ones while throwing the book at others for less crimes!

Maybe MJ is paying the NCAA to stay off of UNC's back!

UNC and Syracuse are already getting some bad publicity and it will it could hurt their recruiting a lot.

I wouldn't be surprised if both schools will suffer a lot more than people think. This is serious stuff and if the NCAA does their job it will get a lot uglier.

I'm sure most people are thinking that the NCAA will give them a free pass but you never know and for once they just might do the right thing. Let's hope the evidence is there and they do what is just and right.

What I thought was ironic recently was a former UNC athlete suing the school for faulty education, HMM!

I believe UNC has another McD's player again this season!

I'm not too certain what Syracuse has done, but I'm almost certain that academic fraud is a very serious offense!

The NCAA is hard on academic fraud and North Carolina could be in deep do-do if they practice what they preach.

Theo Pinson a freshman played in the McDonald All-American game and plays for North Carolina.

Pinson isn't a starter but comes off the bench and plays some.

I checked his numbers and he plays about 14 minutes a game, 3.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, Shoots 37.7% f/g and 62.5% from the line.

There still hasn't been any info as to what Syracuse has done.

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-07-2015, 12:14 PM:

I think they had to do with potential violations from 2010 to 2012 and had to do with former center Fab Melo's academic record.

ANd they've waited this long to address it? WOW!!!

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-07-2015, 05:09 PM:

It depends on what school did what to the NCAA.

If it had been UK and not Syracuse we would already have been guilty and on probation if we were lucky.!

I agree, CMD!

You know how bad it had to be when they self imposed post season play.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-07-2015, 07:40 PM:

Yeah, but when they were beginning to think they are border line not making it anyway, and the toughest part of their schedule ahead of them now!

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-07-2015, 08:42 PM:

They deserve what ever penalties they get. Something that bad deserves more than post season play.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-07-2015, 08:45 PM:

I'm sure our friendly NCAA will do their very best!

Posted by catmandoo (Member # 1284) on 02-07-2015, 08:46 PM:

They have already lost 8 games this season and post season isn't looking that good anyway.

Posted by m hamilton (Member # 127) on 02-07-2015, 08:47 PM:

That's what was reported earlier this week. They weren't sure with the meat of their schedule still ahead of them, that they would make the tourney anyway!

They are not going to make post season play this year.
