Finally a national media member gets it. Kudos to Dana O'Neil.

quote:
Saturday will showcase the fiercest, most intense rivalry in college basketball when Louisville hosts Kentucky (sorry, Duke and North Carolina; you've become civilized by comparison)

There's never been a question in this area of the country.
20 years ago I might have argued that point. In the '80's- '90's the series with IU was right up there. The scores were always close. Back and forth. National attention and we couldn't stand each other on both sides of the river.

m Hamilton,

I agree. I just can't get over the National Media always making a big deal over Duke/UNC. I think it seems like a pretty lame rivalry and they play twice a year. They always state UNC/Duke is #1 Rivalry and then everything else.

Kind of like they do with Ohio State and Michigan in football. That rivalry isn't any where near the Alabama/Auburn rivalry. I've been to OSU/Michigan games and they are tame compared to what I believe a Bama/Auburn game would be. My old company use to have plants in Ardmore and Huntsville, Alabama. Within the first few minutes of walking in the plant the question was "You Rolling Tide or War Eagle?" My reply was "I'm a Wildcat" and they said not good enough. You need to pick "Roll Tide or War Eagle". I was scared to answer.

We've had several Roll Tide Fans at our power plant this year. Construction under way and a lot of the workers are from Bama!

There are a number of Bama fans doing where we live too. They have a big football fan base. I guess people like winners.

Funny you should say that, so why have teams for years been big Cubs fans? To the best of my knowledge the Cubs haven't done much in the history of that organization!

It's probably because their losers and fans feel sorry for them. I am a huge Cub fan and feel you don't have to be a winner to be liked. It's like your kids they don't have to win every game as long as they have a good time and enjoy playing. I guess you don't have any kids or you would know that you don't have to be a winner to be liked.

I was just going with your statement that people like winners!

I guess that you can like winners and losers as we both like Kentucky football and Kentucky basketball and when it comes to winning and losing they are at complete opposites. [Wink]

You're like me though, CMD. This is an entire program we are pulling for here. Basketball drew me in but my love for everything UK just continues to GROW!

Trey, several years ago I was teaching as an adjunct at LSU and went to the LSU Florida game in Death Valley........ I wore a Kentucky sweatshirt and hat..... as I was making my way to the seats in a sea of purple and gold.... I got a similar question..... "Hey Wildcat.... who you cheering for today?" and being highly trained in survival skills, particularly that part about recognizing the danger in your surroundings...... I said in my deepest most masculine voice.... Geaux Tigers...... It really wasn't that hard because I really dislike Florida Football as much as I dislike OhioState.....

It was amazing living in Louisville for so many years as there is all red or all Blue and "no" in between.
