I guess it's possible but Towns looks awfully good.
DraftExpress.com’s MIke Schmitz believes that Kentucky’s Karl-Anthony Towns is the top NBA draft prospect in the Southeastern Conference. However, Bleacher Report’s Thad Novack picks UK teammate Trey Lyles to be the SEC Freshman of the Year over Towns. Here’s what Novack wrote: “Lyles—a 6’10” forward with a precocious offensive repertoire—has the benefit of stepping into Julius Randle’s vacant starting job, where he’ll share the floor with the playmaking Harrison twins. He’s a shot-blocker as well as a scorer, and while classmate Karl-Anthony Towns also features both of those skills, Towns isn’t as sure to be on the floor in crunch time.”
Lyles did not play on UK’s exhibition trip to the Bahamas because of a leg injury, but reports have indicated he started practicing with the team this week.
Exposure: Athlon Sports’ 2014-15 college basketball preview magazine is out and Kentucky sophomore Willie Cauley-Stein is featured on the cover.
Kentucky is picked first in the SEC and No. 1 nationally, and the Wildcats have placed five players on the preseason All-SEC team — Andrew Harrison (first team), Aaron Harrison (second team), Alex Poythress (second team), Karl-Anthony Towns (second team) and Willie Cauley-Stein (third team).
Andrew Harrison is also a second-team preseason All-America pick, and Cauley-Stein is featured in an exclusive question-and-answer story in the magazine that is available at most news stands and bookstores.

I have a feeling that Lyles expertise will rub off on Poythress. If he wants to play he will have to compete with Lyles and I think that gives him more incentive. The platoon system will help him play harder while he is in there.

The way this platoon system probably will work really motivates every player to be on top of his game as if one player slacks off the whole platoon could be replaced. Interesting concept to say the least.

Willis and Hawkins may be the odd men out in the 2-platoon scenario, but will probably see action in spots as they are needed. Those two would be starting on many other college BB teams.
