That would explain why only Teague, Jones and Davis have been in the media reports regarding the players leaving early.

Hope it's true but would be very surprised if it's true. Here is the latest projections and as you can see MKG is 3 and Lamb is 18. It would not be wise according to these projections.

Looking at these guys as to their future capabilities I can see these draaft positions but if you look at their readiness and consistency I don't see it. but they do not draft on their readiness or consistency. Gilchrist played up and down the second half of the season and has a lot of room for improvement in that area. I have to agree that even if he did another season and improved he wouldn't have much room to be drafted any higher. He would only be coming back to have fun in college and to say he won two national championships.

Lamb was our best scorer and there is not much room for him to improve on those stats with the quality of team mates and the scoring spread amongst them. He could get a little more experience at PG. He could improve his ranking in the draft maybe 10 spots and reach the elite level.

To me the scary part is the injury possibility, that would be devastating if the injury was such that it was career ending.

True, but what are the odds of such an injury? Probably about the same as winning the lottery. The real lottery - not the NBA lottery.

I believe by the time you get down to #30 in the first round it is somewhere around $800,000. Last years equivalent are below.

#1 4,286,900 2nd year 4,479,800

#30 850,800 2nd year 889,100

projected spots this year

#3 3,444,400 3,599,400

#18 1,237,500 1,599,400

#20 1,134,500 1,185,600

#25 925,100 966,700

It does taper off sharply after the first 10 or 12 spots. Still 1 million is nice. If Lamb is projected below 1Mil and another year could move him up 10 spots he could possibly reach the 2Mil or even 3 Mil range.

If MKG could improve to the #1 pick... he would make more in 2013 than he probably would in 2012 AND 2013 as the #3 pick, and that doesn't include the difference in shoe deals between #1 and #3.... Financially it would benefit MKG to return to school if he feels he can improve 2 spots in the draft to the #1 pick.

Same goes for Doron Lamb...he is projected mid to late first round.. if he could improve to lottery in one year, he would make more his first year than he will in 3 years if he goes mid to late first round.

Terrence Jones is in that same boat, he too is projected outside of the lottery, next year's draft looks a whole lot weaker than this years....Jones would benefit by returning and working his way into the mid lottery financially. Marquis Teague could improve, however, he would ultimately lose a ton of playing time to Ryan Harrow, which wouldn't improve his stock, he should go. Davis also can't improve himself financially so he too should go.

Saying MKG/Jones/ and Lamb would be dumb to return to school is not an accurate statement... they could all 3 improve themselves as players, as well as financially if they feel they could move up in the draft next year. All three would make more money in 2013 than they would in 2012 and 2013 combined depending on how much they could improve their draft positions. [Wink]

Or they all could make considerably less if their draft status falls. I don't see Lamb or Jones draft status moving much with another year. Especially Lamb, he is what he is and the NBA Scouts already know that IMO.

They;re all gone, none of us have to like it, but we all need to get used to it. Our focus now should be on next year and who Cal can persuade to join Wiltjer, Harrow, Griffin, Noel, Poythress,
Cauley, Hood, Beckham and Polson. Thats nine players, we need anywhere from two to four more
recruits to joib these guys to provide depth and insurance against injury. Basic practice takes
ten to twelve guys to relieve each other. After the guys announce, the path will be clear and the door "open" for new guys to come on board. Cal, is doing his job as I type this, you can be assured. Bennett and Jefferson, are the two most mentioned recruits, rest assured both of them are aware in advance of tonights announcements and will be watching like you will. They know the opportunity is there to join up with the "in school" place to be to follow your dreams to the next level. In that regard the announcements will
help lure future commitments.

If he can go third he would be stupid to stay. He is not going to move up to number 1 and even if he did it wouldn't make up for the 3.5 million he would be giving up. As a number 3 pick he will be a starter and where better to develop NBA skills then starting in the NBA?

I guess your right. In general there is not much player development in the NBA. You are either the stud and get the ball or you are a role player. Maybe with the right encouragement that his skills would be developed he would come back. Trouble is I think if they are a high enough pick coach encourages players to go pro not to come back. Don't get me wrong, I think he encourages them to what he thinks is best for them. On the other hand, 7 million for the first two year and then hang around for a few more and you are set for life.

True but do you want to be known as just a role player of NBA All Star.He must develop a outside and mid range shot to be successful. I am sorry but his form on his shot needs work. He should come back. I think Jones needs to come back because he couldn't hit water from the free throw line if was in the ocean. Davis I think needs to come back as well because Dwight Howard, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, and so on will manhandle him. NBA is much more physical than the NCAA and I can tell you right now he cannot handle the physicality with the way his body is. Teague needs to come back to develop better a shot, decision making as in fast break he would get out of control and or force passes. Lamb needs to come back to get more PG experience as that is what he be playing in the NBA.

If you are, by consensus, going to be #3 there is no way you can afford to come back. The likelihood of an injury is far more common than winning the lottery and while MKG wouuld be eligible for the NCAA Exceptional Student-Athlete Disability Insurance Program, the premium would run in the vicinity of $20,000.00-$30,000.00 per year. He could receive a low-interest (prime + 1.5%) loan through the NCAA to cover the cost of the insurance, but the prospect of a career-ending injury might be enough to change ones mind, given the possibility of a $3.5-$3.6 first year pay check.

Additionally, there certainly is no guarantee that he would have a better year next year than this past year. A lot of that depends on the chemistry of the team and it is giong to be next to impossible to improve on the chemistry of the 2011-12 team.

As much as I would like to have him back, I can understand how Coach Cal would make a player of that draft status convince him (Coach Cal) of the wisdom of returning for another year.

Lebron? MKG is the next Michael, not Lebron. Lebron couldn't hang withhim on the fast break or off the dribble. His shot will come, especially with all the games they play and the personal attention he will get.

MKG is a diamond in the rough. Jordan didn't have the great outside shot, when he first got into the league. He was a scorer and a slasher. Those clutch outside jumpers came later in his career. Jordan didn't post big numbers, while at UNC, either.
