STARKVILLE, Miss. — At the Southeastern Conference Media Day in October, Mississippi State coach Rick Stansbury thought Kentucky would be good and certainly capable of winning the SEC title despite losing key players off the 2011 Final Four team
What Stansbury didn’t know then was just how good Kentucky would be and that the Wildcats would be far better than anticipated.
“No question about that. I¿don’t think anybody anticipated them being this good. Nobody. I don’t think anybody anticipated (Anthony) Davis being like he is. Nobody,” Stansbury said Tuesday.

I think the 2012 team probably is more talented but couldn't argue much if someone said the 96 was more talented or the 2010 team for that matter. The thing the 96 team had that this doesn't is maturity and depth, this team is just so young with a limited bench.
If you look at the 2010 team with Wall, Cousins, Patterson, Liggins, Orton, Bledsoe, Dodson and Miller, now that's a ton of talent. They even had some expieriance with Stevenson and Harris as back-ups and look what happened to them. They just lacked a consistent outside shooter and didn't get the breaks needed to beat a seasoned, well coached team like West Virginia.
You can even make a "good" case for Tubby's 2003 team as they were talented and expierianced too. Any team that can go undefeated in the SEC and win the SEC tournament has to be extremely talented and well coached.
I don't care what people say, to win a National Championship you have to have some breaks and your share of luck along with talent.

The year UK won with Pitino as coach, I didn't think there was a team that could come close to beating them in the tourney. I think they had more veterans on their team. This year's team has enough veterans and also enough shooters to get them over the hump and their defense with Davis, JOnes, and Gilchrist is better than last season. But, in a one and done tourney, I do agree that any team can get beat by a hot shooting team or beat themselves if they have a cold shooting night. This team has two things that make them special. 1 - best defense that I have EVER seen from a Ky team 2- the WILL to win - never seen any team with this much desire, It shows in their faces and the way they play with EACH OTHER>
Those two qualities equal - NC 8

But if they have one of those long stretches where no one can hit a three or any other outside shot at the wrong time it could kill them. Or if more than one key person like Davis and Lamb get into foul trouble or an injury. If this happened to the 96 team they could absorp that and there were plenty of replacements waiting on the bench.

All due respect to this years team, but Rick Stansbury is a complete moron.
