This years draft was more or less a down year due to the possiblity of a NBA lock-out, but next year will more than make up for it!
This wasn’t a great draft talent wise. It was a down year. No franchise cornerstone guys, and a lot of guys with high ceilings but serious questions about if they can ever get there.
Next year on the other hand…
The 2012 draft should be LOADED. That is the year your team can change its fortunes, and not just with the top overall pick. Guys from this year’s lottery stuck around and there is a whole new crop of deeper talent.
According to Chad Ford at ESPN, this could be the deepest class since 2003 (The LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh class… whatever happened to those guys?).
With a potential NBA lockout and other factors in play, an unusually high number of prominent college players passed on their opportunity to jump to the NBA. (North Carolina’s Harrison) Barnes might be the top pick in the (2012) draft, and he could be followed closely by Baylor’s Perry Jones, Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger, Kentucky’s Terrence Jones, Florida’s Patric Young, North Carolina’s John Henson, Kansas’ Thomas Robinson, Duke’s Mason Plumlee and UNC’s Tyler Zeller….
In 2012 we’re projecting nine freshmen as potential lottery picks: (Kentucky’s potential No. 1 overall Anthony) Davis, Kentucky’s Michael Gilchrist, Baylor’s Quincy Miller, Florida’s Bradley Beal, North Carolina’s James McAdoo, Duke’s Austin Rivers, Kentucky’s Marquis Teague, Texas’ Myck Kabongo and Memphis’ Adonis Thomas. It’s unlikely they all squeeze into the first 14 picks (if they decide to leave school), but the talent is there.

The one 2012 Mock draft I have seen so far have UNC with 5 first round draft picks and Kentucky with 5 also. I guess that is why they will be rated number one and number two next year. I was suprised to see Terrance Jones still projected next year as number 12 in that mock draft, it had Davis, Teague and Gilchrist all ahead of him.

Jones already has an NBA body, he just needs to learn to take the ball to his right. Funny thing about that, he is a natural right handed person but decided to play basketball with his left hand as his primary. Hopefully he will develop the complete game by next season. Like Bruce, I think next year's team will truly be something special, one that could very easily win it all with a few breaks. Coach is going to have a ton of versatility with this team.

I thought that the NBA was looking to add, as part of the new agreement, a clause that would require draft participants to be out of high school for two years instead of one. If so, don't look for Teague, Gilchrist and Davis to be in the 2012 draft.

I had not heard that, but I would guess that if it did it would not go into effect until the 2013 draft.

Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

I'm not positive but i think "if" the owners get their way the rule would go into effect at the end of the year which would mean it would actually go into effect for the 2012 draft.

Imagine how good we will be if they do create this rule to take effect immediately. Having Davis, Teague and Gilchrist for two years would be unbelievable.

Why would they want to make it effective sometime down the road? If it were to pass why wouldn't it be effective the next time there was a draft?

My thinking is that the players association wouldn't agree to it for Freshman already entered into college under the old CBA and that they may make a concession for those that have not entered. Of course maybe the NBA players could care less and have it go into effect as soon as a new CBA is signed, but I doubt it because the NBA players association wants to go back to allowing kids to come out right out of high school (which is the way it should be IMO). Just my thoughts on the subject. [ 07-07-2011, 09:59 PM: Message edited by: Trey Ball ]

Trey, the owners are wanting to change the rule to two year in college before the next draft. (20 years old) They are selling it as being better for the college game but if you think about it the real reason is probably about money which makes more sense. It costs them alot of money developing young players and many times they don't turn out that good.
The players union reps think the opposite and that if your good enough to play at 18 then you should be given the right to enter the draft. it will be interesting to see what happens. it doesn't look to be a done deal yet.
