Maybe so. But at some point I need to see this Kentucky team actually win one of these games. It is not enough to be merely be close. Kentucky is so talented that it will always be close. It must find a way to turn close into a win. The Wildcats have found ways to lose down the stretch in a purely non-discriminatory fashion. Whether a rugged, defensive group like Alabama, a soft, athletic team like Florida or simply a one-man shooting show like Ole Miss, Kentucky has lost every time, each a bit more heartbreaking than the last.

There is of course still time for this to turn around. Pundits from Seth Davis to Greg Anthony to Gary Parrish all still believe this Kentucky team has the talent to make a run to the Final Four. I agree in theory. But I have also watched this team lose on the road in as many diverse fashions as one could ever imagine. When the going has gotten tough, this Kentucky team has found a way to get going...directly onto the bus after another loss.

I never give up on a Kentucky team until they have played their last game and the season is over. I have lowered my expectations of this years team but still feel that they could be competetive in the NCAA tournament where games are played on neutral courts.

Lamb could not seem to buy a 3.
If he had been able to get his usual 3's, we would have been in good enough shape to survive the late turnovers which doomed us.
With only 6 reliable players we are in trouble if even one of them has an off game.

It got so bad yesterday that Calipari yanked Lamb in favor of Miller who was hurt on the bench with a bad hammy.

Hope you guys dont mind me hoping in here for a moment, not much happening on the other boards.

I read some post on CatPause lamenting the fact that UK is not good. And I know some post here concerned about the players not living up to billings.

I have seen and experienced the same thing with UNC this year. Barnes starting out less than stellar, Bullock not being up to par, injuries, death in family, etc...and all the other stuff.

What I see with UK is some of the same that is wrong or was hurting UNC at the earlier stages of the season.

Dont think there is any doubt the kids are talented. Same feelings for the UK kids.

The problem is simply YOUTH!

Lets face it, these kids come into our programs with such lofty hype and expectations, and thats nothing new.

But when you look at UNC for example when Larry Drew came in.....not that he was great or highly regarded, but as a freshmen when he came in, due to the fact that Lawson was gone, there was no expienced pg for him to basically learn from.

I guess what I am saying is, now with these kids that come in, ONE and DONE, or early departures, the new incoming crop have less experienced players left to learn from, or the break in period has now been "rushed" meaning the news kids now have to respond quicker, sometimes that is possible, I.E with UK last year, John Wall, (once in 20 years does a player like that come into being in his first year of college ball).

But UK still had experienced players like PP to help step into a leadership role sort of speak.

But you have to look at it from a POSITION point of view, who in that exact same position is experienced enough to actually lead and teach the rookies?

Drew had no one, (not that I think that would have helped) but there was no Lawson to work with or against, or to teach him.

UK lost a boatload last year after the season.
The new kids coming into those positions, who with real expierence was there to guide them as it were?

The kids have talent, but remember the days when we used to know that after a year of participation with the team, the next year they would be much better? Those days are gone with the one and done rule in the NCAA and NBA.

Yep, theses kids come to our programs with tons of talent, but also tons of hype.
And when the learning curve turns out to be a little steeper than expected, fans get impatient.

But this is what the one and done rule has done to the college game.

There will always be those kids that can perform as expected, (john wall) (LeBron James)(Carmello Anthony)etc. but overall, it takes some of these guys more time than just the few months they play to adapt and acclimate to the whole picture of the program, not just the game, but school, socialization, being away from home, etc.

Used to there was more time to adjust, now days, the kids are packaged, promoted, selected, and then expected to perform to top level right out of the box. Hello Harrison Barnes. More times than not, it aint gonna happen quite that way.
Barnes is just NOW starting to understand and relax a bit. Yep he was promoted, packaged, hyped, and then expected to step into an elite program and perform as if he had been there for three years. So unrealistic.

I think UKs players are fine, as mentioned above, this IMO is what has happened to them. It is just not that easy to come to a big name program from highschool and compete at top tier excellance. Now, if UK keeps these guys and next year comes, what would you want to bet most folks would not recognize these kids in the exact same game situations as this year?

Just a thought!

My thoughts exactly. That's why I keep t not being ready to go to the NBA next year. There have already been a lot of kids not make it in the NBA when they left. And I'm sure there will be some more failures that would love to return to school.
