Some schools are dummer than a box of rocks!
The private plane carrying the man responsible for hiring the University of Oregon's next men's basketball coach left Indianapolis airport on Thursday morning without the carry-on coach Pat Kilkenny hoped he'd hire on board.
Brad Stevens got a contract extension from Butler University.
Meanwhile, a limousine carrying Billy Gillispie dropped the controversial coach at the Nike campus. And insiders at the Nike confirmed that the Ducks went back to the drawing board on Thursday and megabooster Phil Knight is now officially in the thick of the search.
Kilkenny said a week ago that he'd swing big, and hire someone the entire Ducks fan base would be proud and impressed with.
Proud?
Impressed?
Not words any of us would use to describe what's going on with the search for the next basketball coach. They're looking for a big name, and ending up with fistfuls of pocket lint. So bring on the Gillispie debate -- which should be spirited -- and also add Stevens to the splashy list of men who got all the money they wanted without moving to Eugene.

Knight is a OU alum.
This would be a horrible hire for them.

So boosters are allowed to get involved with coaching searches, donating big-time money, etc. But if they have anything to do with a recruit or player, it's bad news. Boy, the NCAA is really screwed up.
