When I was a kid I always turned down TV sound and listened to cawood make the call. now delay is so long hard to listen to Tom Leach. does anyone know what changed?

The network went satellite which adds delay. In your childhood days (or at least in my childhood days) and even up until the mid-1990s the signal was sent by telephone lines to all participating radio stations. With the new satellite technology there is a delay because the signal is uplinked to the satellite and then downlinked to the stations before being fed out on broadcast by the stations. They also added additional delay in order catch any inadvertant inappropriate language which had happened on other sports networks.

Tom, is not quite Cawood but who ever will be? He is a very good announcer however and we are darn lucky to have him...
