2. University of Kentucky, Wildcats
Value: $25.4 million
Operating Income: $16 million
Previous Value Rank: 2

Lexington, Ky., Metro Population: 454,210

Kentucky has hired sports heavyweights IMG and ISG to conduct a feasibility study for a new privately financed basketball venue, which, if built, would likely vault the Wildcats--who currently receive no revenue from concessions, parking or premium seating at Rupp Arena--
into a financial stratosphere all their own.

A very interesting read from Forbes on 03.16.09.

That article was written last March before the firing of Gillespie and the hiring of Calipari. To think that even through the Gillespie years, Kentucky was able to maintain a #2 ranking. That is pretty incredible. I wonder if the hiring of Calipari will impact some of the numbers for Kentucky even in this down economy.

Mike, good find and it's a interesting story and it does look like we need our own venue. It may take a few years to get ready but when it is it will be something special and worth waiting for.
