Cousins is a can't miss star and will have many great years in the NBA. I would bet he he will be a one and done player for the Cats..
Like a lot of Alabama youngsters, DeMarcus Cousins envisioned himself as a football star, not a top basketball recruit.
“I didn’t like basketball at all. I really didn’t start playing basketball until seventh or eighth grade. Football was my first love. I was a quarterback and could really throw the ball,” Cousins said. “Basically, I got pressured into playing basketball and just grew to love it.”
Why not with the skills he had?
The 6-11 Cousins grew into one of the nation’s premier prep players and was a consensus top five national player when he signed with Kentucky last spring after the arrival of coach John Calipari. He averaged 24.1 points, 13.2 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 3.2 blocked shots and 5.1 steals per game last year. He earned Parade and McDonald’s All-America honors.
He’s having to adjust his game at Kentucky, but not totally. He was used to just knocking players out of the way if needed in high school, but he sees no reason to change his style of play now.
“I guess you could say that. I just come to play. I don’t have time to loaf. I am coming to cut your throat just like you are coming to cut mine,” he said.
“A lot of people have misunderstood me. I am not a bad guy. I can’t blame people, though, for their opinions. I am here now, and I like the big stage to show who I am. They will see what I am like. I am a bad ass on the court but I am a cool guy off the court. I do sometimes act like a big teddy bear off the court.”
