Even as she was preparing for the biggest moment of her life, Maria Montgomery couldn’t quite get away from her Kentucky roots.
She was in Las Vegas for the Miss USA contest at the same time Kentucky was abuzz over the hiring of new UK basketball coach John Calipari. Since Montgomery, a 2007 Boyle County graduate, and her family are self-described “big UK fans,” she wasn’t surprised by a reaction she got in Vegas.
