Hopefully the pain will go away but hard to see that happening without giving it time heal..

Don't expect Patrick Patterson's damaged digits to leave the University of Kentucky basketball team short-handed.

Yes, the power forward still is playing with pain as the result of a finger injury on his right, shooting hand.

Yes, the 6-foot-9 sophomore sat out part of Monday's practice in preparation for tonight's game against Auburn at Rupp Arena.

But Patterson's pain isn't expected to keep him out of the lineup for the Wildcats (14-4, 3-0 Southeastern Conference).

"If there were any situations where it was going to get worse by playing, he definitely wouldn't be out there," UK coach Billy Gillispie said yesterday. "I don't think there's any danger of this becoming a real big problem. I think it's going to be a nagging thing for a while."

Gillispie knows all too well the difference between an injury that's merely bothersome and one that can be season-altering. He dealt with a few of the latter last season.

Could be a big reason why his shooting percentage has dropped!

You'll see the same agressive style out of Patterson tonight, he just doesn't have his shooters touch right now!
