I posted a couple of months ago that I did not think TH was as good as everyone in the media was making him out to be. I still think he has been overrated somewhat, but last night AGAINST UL, TYLER WAS THE MAN!

I've never seen him hit 3 jump shots from 17-18' out like he did last night, and he did not get 15 pts. from the free throw line. But he did do everything else to help his team win. The follow-up SLAM was a thing of beauty, and his constant hustle paid off big time.

Without his offense last night UNC would have gone down.

After seeing Pitino shut down Tim Duncan at Wake Forest back in 96, I truly felt he would take Hansborough out of the game last night and he did not. Hansborough is a great talent but he has a license to maim while playing basketball and if someone breathes heavily on him it is called a foul, that is why he shoots so many foul shots. He is like a bull in a china closet and gets away with running over people. Probably the most protected player by the referree's I have ever seen play the college game.

It was a different team, different personnel, and different circumstances, Ray. Back then Pitino had a great defender in Walter McCarty who held Duncan in check with lots of weak side help from the rest of the team. Also Duncan was somewhat of a one man team. UNC certainly is not a one man team.

Regardless of anything else, you can't argue with his performance last night. Simply outstanding--especially those two late jumpers.

The most disappointing about Hansbrough is that he might be, had certain things been aligned differently, wearing a darker shade of blue.

Hans probably had at least twelve fouls against UL. He should have fouled out early in the second half.

I hear this stuff about refs and Hans and its a bunch of crock folkss.

You watch TH and say he fouls, how bout really wathching, and notice the BEATINGS he is taking from the opposing players. Watch the replays and notcie the shoves, elbows, pushing, dont just watch one view point, watch the whole game.

I have watched him all season, and I have seen the fouls NOT called on TH, he has taken as much a beataing if not more than he dishes out and the refs in order to be "non preferential" let opposing players get away with a considerable amount.

Instead of just looking at TH, take some time and notice the beatings he is takeing, notice the body movement of the players legs and how they try to "ride" him out of position with no calls.

TH likes the pysical play, no doubt, but if you get physical, he will in return and its not an accident that he goes to the line more, one reason is he is more aggressive to the goal, and that will get you to the line more.

I doubt that he is getting all these awards from basically every sports publication just because the refs favor him,(sarcasm).

spend as much time watching what he recieves as much as you watch what he dishes out and you may just be surprised.

I'm with you Norm. Some of those non-called fouls were over the back slap across the arms fouls out on the perimeter, not in close pushing and shoving. He got preferential treatment!

Heels, you are not the only one capable of 'really' watching the game or the player. Personally I have really liked Hansborough and kind of followed his career. I admire his attitude and his physical play just as I admired Brandon Wright last year.

That said, he does get fouled a lot, no question. But he gets by with contact on a regular basis that others are whistled a foul on when he is not. I do not blame him for that at all but he clearly gets the breaks of the whistle more than the opposition.

The man speaks the truth. Hansbrough is the hardest-working player I've ever seen, bar none. If he was ours, he would easily be one of our all-time favorites. The kid has a huge heart and little ego--if I had a kid who played basketball, I'd make sure he got to see Hansbrough play. He's Pete Rose, without the punk attitude.

He earns everthing he gets and, contrary to what some say, gets little help from the refs. I believe he played an entire game against Duke earlier this season without going to the line, a virtual impossibility given how he takes it to the glass.

The fact that Hansbrough is a talent cannot be denied.

His talent is more than just playing the game it includes acting among other things. I'm not sure that I have ever seen a fould called either way on him that he did not initiate the contact. He also the master of the flop. Not just any floy mind youbut one where he goes flying on his butt when fighting for position. The man is a mountain and yet he can go flying like a WWF champ.

Consisdering the type game he plays he should be getting about as many fouls called on him as he inflicts on others. If not one for one I would settle on one for Tyler for ever time he gets foulded twic.

Again he is a talent that cannot be denied, however, he is a protected species.

You are right if he was a Cat he would be idolized. Much like Chuck Hayes but with an ability to get some scores.

Its all about the game of basketball and the discussions.

I never came here to be offensive or flame or even hold the Carolina banner as it were in your faces.

I just like the conversations that center around the game itself, the NCAA, and where its pertinant, UNC.

If you notice I stay out of the UK frays and "family discussions" as it were.

Its all in the love of the game and just being able to debate, discuss, and socialize with people other than those in my onw UNC world.

I like ya Prophet, whether you like me or not, you add spice to the conversations and I have no ill will to you or anyone be them UK or Duke.

I just enjoy the good folks here at this board that do NOT agree with everything I say where basketball is concerned. Thats why I come over here.

IF I want agreement on UNC basketball I will post over there, but in discussions where we can have good clean debate, I really enjoy it both on the basketball side and the political side here with you UK fans, your good people.

Either way Prophet, you dont have to like me, but I still like exchanging thoughts with you.

Jeff Craddock and Deliverance, I agree totally that Hansborough is a SUPER talent and a player I would love to have at UK. I agree if he were at UK we would all love him and he would be an all time favorite. He is one of my all time favorite players from another team already.

However, that said he does get a kind whistle and often the benefit of NO whistle when others doing the same thing would be whistled for the foul. That is not a comment about him or his ability and effort, it is a comment on the officials. Is it every official? I would say not but overall, he gets benefits that most other players (not wearing a Duke uniform [Big Grin]

do not.

I have seen too many games where he was over the back, rushing down the center of the lane to grab a rebound while pushing others out of the way, body contact against players making shots in the lane, violations of the vertical plane rule, and etc. that are consistently not called against him. On the other end of the court, I have seen repeated incidents where he has initiated the contact and the other player is called for the foul. And yes, I have seen the occasional foul called on him that was nit picking and times when he has been clubbed by an opponent and nothing called. But on the whole, he benefits on both ends of the court when it comes to fouls more than most. Again, I do not blame him and actually admire that he is takes advantage of that with his style of play.

As for Heels, I really enjoy his perspective and comments and see no 'agenda' other than as he says, the love of the game. I like seeing other perspectives bring a little objective view to our discussions. But I also think on this and on the locations that NC played in this year's NCAA that he is blinded by his loyalty to the Tar Heels. In honesty though, we probably would be blinded to such things ourselves. I know I am from time to time. [Wink]

A sad day in the Big Blue Nation gets even moreso when a dedicated UK fan such as MountainMafia gets a reproof for doubting a Tar Heel. Tolerance does have its limits and they're exceedingly narrow when it comes to anything and everything bleached-out blue.

I have been on this board around three years, and I like the folks here on this board.

You love UK and I love UNC, so what...does that mean we should not be able to talk to each other and exchange opinions and ideas?

Thanks prophet. My opinion has not changed, but it is an opinion best left unsaid (I know, too late), or, at least, expressed a little less abrasively. I'm too blunt for my own good at times.
