After beating previously undefeatedand Number 1 Memphis by four points at Memphis... It looks like the Tennessee Volunteers will represent the SEC as the new number 1 on Monday. Great game.

I hear you chattacat. I absolutely hate Tennessee. We get screwed every time we play down there. However, I must admit, I actually caught myself rooting for UT there late in the game. As far as Pearl, I really like him as well. I just hate the UT program. Wow, I actually feel like I'm going to get a call from my mother any second now for saying the word "hate" [Smile]

You guys better wake up and realize what is going on here. On March 2nd, UK will go into Knoxville to play against the #1 Ranked team in the Nation on their home court. Coach G, has the Cats playing very good basketball right now, We will NOT be afraid of them, we will NOT back down, we WILL take the fight to them in their own backyard for forty minutes and NOT back down!.

We already beat them in Rupp Arena. Since then they have gotten Duke Crews back in the lineup.

I wanted to have Jodie Meeks back at full strength by then but that is looking doubtful.

Coach G & the Cats' will make Everyone of us proud, you wait and see!

BC, I like your excitement but there is no way we beat UT in knoxville. I think we lose by 10+.
They have really turned their defense up a notch since playing us the first time.

I can keep from liking Pearl. I like what he's done for UT and the SEC, but I just don't care for the guy personally.

I am a UK Fan #1 and a SEC Fan #2. When #1 doesn't apply to a game, #2 takes over.

I was all over pulling for Tennessee over Memphis. As well as pulling for the SEC's last three butt-whimpings of Ohio State in national championship games.

I hate Tenn - Fl - Duke - UNC - Ind and several more. However, since we will be playing Tenn regardless of their ranking, they may as well be number one which bodes well for us. How many times do you get an opportunity to play a number one?
Pls Meeks be ready!! [Smile]

I was definitely pulling for UT last night. I have been wondering if Memphis was overrated, but after seeing them play a quality team, they look pretty legit to me. I have to pull for SEC teams when they play out of conference games. I get tired of hearing year after year how the other conferences *cough ACC cough* are so superior to the rest of the country.

UNCSucks, I'm not predicting a UK win in Knoxville next sunday. what I am predicting is that we will show up and bring the fight to them on their floor. If we show America that we are competitive against the #1 team, on their floor, that will speak volumes to our RESUME, and can only help us in a very positive manner.

ALL the PRESSURE is on Tennessee.

Why do we have to play UT again? Is there any way we can get out of it without it affecting our record? [Big Grin]

I wasn't too impressed with Memphis (as a #1-ranked team). Yeah, they're good, but all they did was jack up three-pointers. Their inside game seemed weak to me. UT outrebounds them by fifteen.

Yeah and I will be reminding you of this post when we do beat them. and I will tell you why. Okay if anybody has just beat the number one team in the a nation what would you feel like, feel like you were on top of the world right?

I will tell you why we beat them they may be ready for revenge but we will be ready and tough. Also I think that they will have a big head(who wouldnt) and that will make them vulnerable when the CATS come into Knoxville. Of course there are probably other reasons why and why cant we beat them but those are my reasone THAT WE DO BEAT THEM IN KNOXVILLE. I feel good about this game.

The best chance to beat them would be if we were their next game. The heady feeling of being number 1 will be diswsipated next week.

I am not a defeatist by nature but reality must be faced. There is no way to beat themwith the playeres we have available versus theirs. Add to that the home court advantage and the writing is on the wall.

We will not be hurt to bad in the standings if we can hold to ten points. On the other hand UT will be aiming to hit us harder than Vandy.

I'm like the other poster I wish this game had been earlier.

First, I don't expect Vols to be #1 on March 2 because I expect them to lose to Dores Tuesday in Nashville.

Second, I prophesy that neither UT or Memphis wins NCAA. Very athletic teams but lack discipline and coaching for NCAA tournament play. Would not be at all surprised if neither made The Final Four.

Third, with UK's slimmest of margins for error the odds of winning in Knoxville are remote. Having them still #1 and having clinched the SEC title would help Cats meager chances.

I remember UK dethroning Florida several years ago the very day the Gators became #1. If you're not used to being there, it can get to your head pretty fast.

UK beat UT before and I think they can do it again. Barring a repeat of the team that showed up for the Vandy game in Nashville, I think UK can hold their own at UT. I see this one going down like a typical UK SEC game this season. The game will be won or lost in the last few minutes.

Prophet,

You are going to hate me for this but I agree with your assessment. I thought both UT and Memphis played a very undiciplinced style of ball.

It looked more like street ball. Were there really any set plays in that game last night?
Looked like for a while all Memphis was going to do was jack up 3s all night. And if that is the best defense Memphis can muster?

IMO I thought even though both teams have quallity talent, it was more of an exhibition of streetball than actual basketball. Not many teams in the NCAA tourney are going to let you play that style of ball.

Both teams have great speed, but they need some dicipline to go with it.

It just looked sloppy for a lot of the game to me. It could have been just one of those games where neither team really was comfortable guarding each other.

Good point and actually I did forget -- an all too common experience. I could quibble and say that I was speaking in media perception, or perhaps RPI or Sagarin, but it wouldn't be true.
