Some speculation that Rick Barnes may be the #1 back-up plan to BD.
Doesn't do much for me. Good seasons with great players, but can't seem to finish.

The way the Lexington paper article says today we better get used to looking for the back up. He thinks that Billy has too many ties to break free in Gainesville to take the UK job. I have started that feeling also. Barnes may be one of the choices.

I still don't get this coaching search.
Why isn't Calipari the second option? He's as good a recruiter as Donovan, and would probably do just as well here...
Plus, I don't consider him any more likely to get us put on probation than Billy Donovan is.

Anyone heard anything about a group of Lexington businessmen putting together a "signing bonus" if Coach Donovan were to come to Lexington?

I don't think "ties" have anything to do with coaching. BD himself said he didn't think the long term coach like a Rupp or Wooden would ever exist in college bball again. That was said in one of his interviews about last years championship run I saw recently on ESPN.

I could handle Rick Barnes if it came down to it. He seems to be a good recruiter and I think kids like to play for him. That being said, I think it will be a huge let down if Billy D. doesn't come but it is dangerously possible that he doesn't come so we need to be prepared for that. I hope it doesn't come to that, but I am trying not to get too high on this speculation so I won't have far to fall should things no work out with Donovan. Back to Barnes, I would much rather have him than most of the other names I have been hearing--Crean, Izzo, Gillepsie, Ford etc...

Here is his bio. It doesn't look like he would be the man to satisfy the majority of fans. I think the bashers would eat him up in a few years. If he is the best we can do it would show how the Kentucky job has lost it's luster. You have to have noticed the few that have shown any interest in us at all, with that said let's just hope someone with good credentials shows up soon...B.D. for instance. Barnes

If not Billy D, then who? Does anyone think there is still a possibility we go after Calipari? I heard he had a contract exension but he had not signed it yet.
