racial issues are alive and well in America. instead of joking about it, we should work towards reconciliation.

Racial issues are only alive and well because we perpetuate them, we set standards and then lower them to appease people, the standards should be the same for everyone because we are all created equal.
But we are not treated as equals, I will give you three true examples that are not rumors are not made up but are facts, one my wife worked as an admissions counselor for WKU, to get into WKU the minimum ACT score was a 21 and a GPA of at least 2.0 were expected very minimum in state requirements. She sat in on Scholorship meetings where white students with 28 ACT's and 3.8 GPA combined were turned down, but African American students with a 20 on their ACT and a 3.2 from the same high schools mind you were given full scholorships to the University! Please explain the rationale behind that! 2. I have an EDS degree in educational leadership, I just interviewed for a job with 19 other applicants 20 total, it comes down to three candidates go downtown to interview for the final job. One has to be African American, and one has to be female, so if that African American is a Male, I have a 1/18 shot of being the third candidate selected to go downtown, was I selected? Of course not!
3. As a future administrator and the parent of a child labeled as gifted and talented of here its called AGP advanced gifted and talented my child IQ was a 142 which is very high and he of course was accepted into the program, the minimum for anyone non African American was a 130, African Amercian Children were put into AGP with an IQ of 115 or over, several children at 116 were allowed into the program. This has since been changed to free and reduced lunch instead of Ethnicity, so now anyone who is on free and reduced lunches child can get into the AGP program with a 115 or higher while my child who is not on free and reduced lunch has to score a 130 or higher!
So I ask anyone who complains about race and racism, what kinda standard is set when we lower the standard for one race or for economic status but expect everyone to be treated as equals but the standards are no where close to equal. Are there racist people out there, yes, reverse racism is alive and well too. Steven A. Smith of ESPN IMO is racist against white people IMO, he says nothing but deragatory things towards white athletes and coaches and defends African American Athletes and coaches all day. Its a double standard!

I TOTALLY agree with you that standards such as you have stated perpetuate the racial issue in America.
However, there is another perpetuating factor: racism. Please don't hear me calling anyone on this site racist; that is a damning charge. I am just saying that we all need to play our role in racial reconciliation in America today. Lord knows I need to do my part.

I wouldn't want Pitino OR Calipari, tbh.
I'd take Billy Donovan in a heartbeat and if he turns it down, I'd go after Travis Ford.

I feel exactly the same way. Have shuddered at the thought of Pitino or Cal from the beginning - and have held out hope for either Billy or Trav. (I know it is a long shot, but the sentimental side of me really wants to see ol' #5 back in Rupp. Loved that guy)

CT-You know I love you like a brother, well maybe a brother-in-law, but I just cannot understand the fascination with Travis Ford. This program needs someone who can come in right now and make an immediate positive impact. Based on what I have seen while he was at EKU and while he has been as UMass, I do not believe he is ready for this challenge now. He may be in 5 years or 10 years, but not now.

Answering the Ford question:
For me it is pure sentimentality. Ford and Mashburn will always be my favorite UK players. It would be great to see one of our "own" pacing the sidelines. Because of this it is easy for me to overlook his lack of experience, in hopes that he would bring passion and excitement back to KENTUCKY basketball!

I agree he would bring passion, and excitment, maybe, but the down side is this program has a way of "eating up" those who are not fully ready for it. Unfortunately, since Coach Rupp, the only Coach who was ready for it was Coach Pitino, and in his case, probably because of his experience with the NBA. Coaches Hall, Sutton and Smith all had their limitations. While only Sutton embarrassed the program, the other two served as caretakers. Only coach Pitino, at that time, had the ability to completely manage all of the aspects and stresses of the job.
So, what am I saying? UK needs someone who not only can recruit and coach, but someone who can manage all apsects of the program from daylight to dark, from Sunday to Saturday, New Years to Christmas. As simple as that sounds, history tells us it is not an easy job and it most certainly is not for someone without all of the necessary job skills, and requisite experience. Bayer,
I actually do not disagree at all with you. When the rubber hits the road, I don't think that Ford is the man for the job (for the particular reasons you have mentioned).
For me, though, if Ford could fill these very large shoes, he would be my sentimental favorite. It is almost a shame that this all didn't go down 5 years from now, when Trav may have been ready. There is just something about Kentucky basketball that only a Kentuckian can understand...

One other possibility would be for him to hire an assistant of some stature to shoulder those burdens for him.

My feelings for Travis are mostly sentimental, too...and bayer's probably right that he would be MORE adapted for the position in a few more years. Still, he's fiery and he's charismatic...and I doubt he'd back down from the challenges as Head Coach at UK. Sure would be sweet tho, to have a KENTUCKIAN at the reins of KENTUCKY basketball---instead of these fur'eners.
